Professional Liability Underwriter
DESCRIPTION
Primary responsibilities include the management, underwriting and growth of a professional liability portfolio of business.
SALARY RANGE
$80,000 to $90,000 starting salary plus defined bonus plan
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with an establish Proprietary Professional Program.
- Prospect and appoint additional agents to distribute Professional products.
- Work with existing carrier appointments to facilitate overall growth of Professional business
- Educate and train existing agency appointments on Professional products and capabilities
- Quote all new and renewal Professional related business.
- Monitor industry trends and results responding as necessary
- Lead the development of product enhancements based on industry trends and performance of book while ensuring long term sustainability.
- Review underwriting results to determine improvement plan and new business opportunities to increase the quality of the book of business
- Works closely with IT and operations management team to develop process efficiencies and appropriate systems
- As required through growth, hire, coach, mentor, and develop staff, including overseeing new employee onboarding and providing career development planning and opportunities, ensuring achievement of department service standards.
- Analyze key metrics of Underwriters to identify areas of improvement and development opportunities.
- Analyze Underwriting data to determine approval for risk selection, acceptance, coverage and price.
- Some travel required to visit agencies for development and maintenance of profitable business relationships.
- Prepares for carrier audits and responds to findings as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- 3+ years of professional liability underwriting experience with an MGA or Program Manager
- Proven background creating and placing new business, establishing relationships and opening doors to create new business partners within the independent retail agency system.
- Working knowledge of underwriting concepts and policy and the ability to design, modify and influence book management plans across geographies and classes of business.
- Understand key drivers of profitability and operational performance
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products to include Word, Excel and Outlook
- Ability to adapt quickly to new software applications and Carrier systems
- Professional verbal and written communication along with strong leadership and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a team, productivity based environment
- Strong organization and prioritization skills
- Must possess initiative and drive to make positive changes to processes
