Production Manager, Blow Molding
Reports to: Plant Site Manager
Accountability/Objectives:
Responsible for planning and directing the blow molding operations in accordance with established management policies and objectives. This person will direct and monitor the activities of production to ensure the attainment of goals set for production volumes, schedules, delivery, costs, and quality. The Production Manager is expected to optimize the processes and the productivity of the workforce to satisfy customers with the highest quality product and on time. Drives effectiveness in the production function by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business Management, or related field preferred but will consider non-degreed candidates based on having the knowledge below…
5 to 10 years of hands-on production, manufacturing supervisory experience in a responsible management position is required.
Must have the ability to analyze and define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
Strong preference to working knowledge of Blow Molding machines, processes, and related equipment but will consider any other type of plastics manufacturing (Thermoforming, extrusion, blown-films, cast-films, injection molding, etc.) for any industry is fine but strong preference to products for the package industries).
Must have good people and team-building skills practicing a visible leadership style working out on the floor with employees leading by example, scheduling, mentoring/training, goal setting, motivating, and holding /driving accountability (A micro-manager or aggressive mgmt. style will NOT work at this facility).
Experience with food extrusion/Good Manufacturing Practices/Food Safety a plus.
A plus for any working knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma methods and implementations.
Competent in problem solving, team building, planning and decision making
Responsibilities:
Works with scheduling controls and in conjunction with the Production Scheduling function to ensure that schedules are developed which meet customer needs while maximizing production efficiencies (i.e. minimization of mold changes and downtime).
Coordinates and directs the activities of shift production supervisors to develop and promote maximum operating effectiveness across all shifts.
Tracks production figures, labor, efficiencies, downtime, preform consumption and scrap on a regular basis. Identifies operational trends and issues and recommends actions to effectively address problems and capitalize on opportunities.
Controls spending and variances on departmental budget line items to ensure that budgeted items are being accomplished within time and budget constraints.
Responsible for skills development and cross-training of production supervisors, bottle packers and machine techs to increase knowledge base and flexibility within the production function.
Coordinate staffing/personnel requirements across productions shifts, including vacations, manning, employee evaluations, etc.

Develop and maintain positive team member relations centered on mutual trust, dignity, respect, fairness, consistency, two-way communication, teamwork, and harmony.
Maintains positive employee relations and adheres to company policies and safety standards.
Assists employees in solving work related problems.
Leads team in execution of daily production tasks, work scheduling, training, and maintenance.
Direct, assist and coordinate daily production of work cells, with Supervisors.
Hold daily white board meetings to communicate daily objectives and discuss successes, failures, and countermeasure activity with Supervisor teams.
Review and plan headcount monthly for labor cost control and PEFF (production efficiency).
Communicates with customer service and maintenance departments to ensure due dates along with quality requirements are met.
Cross trains select employees to do various jobs so they can act as backups when needed.
Identifies and implements continuous improvement activities to improve department performance.
Ensure all job changes and setups are meeting the standards times goals along with cycle times for running production.
Ensure that all safety programs and procedures are being followed and implemented in a timely manner.
Participate on the safety committee.
Communicates with Plant Manager to keep aware of issues taking place in the production area.

4. Completion of yearly production objectives.
5. Training of personnel.
6. Continuous improvement projects.
