Product Development Engineer

PURPOSE: Reporting to the Organization’s Head of Product Development, the Product Development Engineer / Scientist will be responsible for providing leadership in the creation and the development of new technologies for disposable absorbent products, investigating and evaluating existing technology, designing and implementing new methodologies, materials, processes or products, developing new technologies from initial design to market release, and conducting feasibility studies of the design.


  • Participating as a member of the Product Development team, executing projects in a timely, diligent, safe and professional manner, and contributing to the growth of the team and department
  • Designing new products and product improvements to meet business and consumer needs
  • Developing new and improved materials and technologies in collaboration with suppliers and customers, while ensuring proper safety testing and clearance
  • Developing new test methods to better predict and understand product performance
  • Proposing, executing and interpreting consumer use studies using outside market research organizations
  • Leading trial activities, documenting results, conclusions and proposing recommended actions to Management
  • Working and collaborating with other departments within the organization
  • Providing technical support to manufacturing for new process start-up and process enhancements
  • Providing technical support to address specific customer issues or information requests
  • Presenting product development plans and product performance data to key customers


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Physical Science or related
  • 3+ years of experience in developing and implementing new products. Prefer experience with developing products for the absorbent disposable or hygiene products industry (retail and/or institutional markets)
  • Strong multi-disciplinary skills and a proven record of managing work in a safe and efficient manner
  • Self-starter who takes action and inspires others to do the same
  • Strong working knowledge of consumer absorbent product converting technologies
  • Experience defining and documenting approved design specifications from concept through commercialization
  • Analytical, organized and detail oriented. Proficient in the statistical analysis of experimental data
  • Advanced Excel skills and competency with other Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to adapt to a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Willingness to travel to international conferences, customers, suppliers or manufacturing plants for product and process trials
