Position Overview

As a Product Development Engineer II, you’ll play a key role in designing and developing new aerospace products that meet FAA-PMA requirements for safety, performance, and compliance. You'll be involved in every stage of product development, from reverse engineering and prototyping to testing and production support. This is a high-impact role where you’ll collaborate across teams and be directly involved in shaping Av8’s product roadmap.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive the growth of Av8 by developing innovative new FAA-PMA products
  • Reverse engineer existing aerospace components and identify improved design solutions
  • Develop 3D CAD models and detailed engineering drawings (SolidWorks)
  • Define production specifications and ensure manufacturability
  • Create, submit, and support FAA-PMA design application packages
  • Collaborate with production, quality, and sales teams to support product launches
  • Provide engineering guidance and technical training to cross-functional teams
  • Execute engineering change orders (ECOs) to improve production efficiency
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned

What You’ll Need to Succeed

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience + degree)
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant engineering experience (design, manufacturing, etc.)
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and CAD-based modeling/drafting
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, tolerancing (ASME Y14.5M), and material properties
  • Knowledge of basic structural design and analysis of mechanical components
  • Understanding of material properties and use in component design
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills — team player mentality
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to draft and deliver technical presentations to leadership

Technical Proficiency:

  • SolidWorks
  • AutoCAD
  • MS Office Suite

Preferred/Bonus Skills:

  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience
  • FAA product certification experience
  • Hands-on knowledge of machining or manufacturing processes
  • Background in landing gear systems or maintenance
