Principal Software Architect (Public Safety Software)

Peskind Executive Search is conducting a confidential search on behalf of an industry-leading public safety technology organization seeking a Principal Software Architect to support the design, integration, and evolution of mission-critical software platforms serving law enforcement, emergency communications, and public safety agencies throughout North America.

This strategic technical leadership role will be responsible for defining enterprise integration architecture, establishing interoperability standards, and guiding the delivery of highly available, secure, and scalable solutions across Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD), Records Management Systems (RMS), mobile applications, analytics, and other public safety technologies.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong combination of software architecture expertise, enterprise integration experience, cloud technologies, and customer-facing leadership skills within complex, mission-critical environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and lead enterprise integration and interoperability architecture strategy across mission-critical public safety platforms.
  • Establish architectural standards, governance frameworks, and best practices for customer, partner, and third-party integrations.
  • Translate operational workflows and business requirements into scalable, secure, and maintainable technical solutions.
  • Partner with product management, engineering, implementation, and cloud operations teams to ensure architectural alignment across platform roadmaps.
  • Provide technical leadership for complex customer deployments involving cloud-native, hybrid, and on-premises environments.
  • Review and approve architecture designs for APIs, interfaces, messaging systems, event-driven architectures, and interoperability frameworks.
  • Support implementation and delivery teams through technical escalations, integration troubleshooting, readiness reviews, and go-live activities.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, cybersecurity, and cloud operations teams to ensure compliance with public safety security standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive long-term maintainability, resiliency, observability, scalability, and supportability across integration solutions.
  • Assist sales, professional services, and customer success teams with technical solution design, proposal development, and customer consultations.
  • Mentor architects, software engineers, implementation consultants, and technical specialists.
  • Promote continuous improvement through architectural governance, lessons learned, and standardization initiatives.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, interoperability standards, cloud architectures, and AI-assisted development capabilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience designing enterprise software architectures, distributed systems, APIs, interoperability platforms, or integration frameworks.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical software environments within public safety, emergency communications, government, justice, or similarly complex industries.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise integration patterns, event-driven architectures, API design, messaging technologies, and real-time interoperability concepts.
  • Experience working directly with customers on solution architecture, technical consulting, and deployment strategy.
  • Knowledge of public safety security and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with cloud-native and hybrid architectures, including Azure, Kubernetes, SaaS, and Platform-as-a-Service environments.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, message brokers, relational databases, CI/CD pipelines, source control systems, and modern development practices.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive technical alignment across large organizations.
