Our client is seeking a Principal, Income Tax to provide strategic leadership, technical expertise, and innovative solutions to support a diverse client base. This role will play a critical part in shaping tax strategy, advising on complex matters, and driving the continued growth of the practice. The successful candidate will lead and mentor a team of tax professionals while building strong client relationships and contributing to business development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:Client Engagement & Advisory
  • Advise clients on income tax planning, consulting, and compliance matters
  • Lead and review engagement work performed by managers and staff
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Canadian income tax
  • Develop and deliver innovative tax planning strategies tailored to client needs
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships
  • Identify opportunities for service expansion and cross-selling

Leadership & Strategic Planning
  • Partner with clients to develop effective, forward-looking tax strategies
  • Identify initiatives to enhance service delivery, efficiency, and profitability
  • Stay current on tax legislation, regulatory changes, and industry trends
  • Support the overall operations and administration of the tax practice

Practice Growth & Team Development
  • Contribute to business development and firm growth strategies
  • Identify and participate in networking opportunities to enhance market presence
  • Develop and deliver tax training for internal teams and clients
  • Create tools, templates, and processes to streamline client engagements
  • Mentor and develop team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment

Ideal Candidate
  • 12+ years of experience in income and corporate tax planning and advisory, ideally within public accounting
  • Deep expertise in Canadian federal and provincial income tax legislation
  • Strong knowledge of tax accounting under IFRS, ASPE, and US GAAP
  • Experience with inbound and outbound tax matters, including international tax treaties and Canadian foreign affiliate rules
  • Proven experience conducting tax research and preparing technical memos
  • Hands-on approach, with willingness to review and prepare complex tax deliverables
  • Strong leadership experience managing and developing teams (ideally 4+ professionals)
  • Demonstrated success managing client relationships (ideally a portfolio of 10+ clients)
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex tax concepts into clear, actionable insights
  • Strong business development mindset with the ability to identify and drive growth opportunities
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Proactive, resilient, and solutions-oriented, with a commitment to delivering high-quality work and exceptional client service
