Webuild (www.webuildstaffing.com) is actively seeking a Principal Environmental Engineer or Geologist to provide high-level leadership in technical direction, project management, and strategic growth initiatives for the organization working throughout the Midwest.

The ideal individual would have 10+ years of experience in planning, designing, and managing the day-to-day operations of complex environmental projects while also developing long-term strategies to ensure the continued success and expansion of the organization. Operating at the intersection of natural systems and the built environment, the Principal Engineer will be responsible for addressing critical environmental issues such as site remediation, waste handling and disposal, soil improvement, permitting, and regulatory compliance. Through large-scale testing, field investigations, and advanced numerical simulations, must have proven expertise in leading efforts to ensure the sustainability and resilience of infrastructure systems.

The Principal Engineer will oversee large-scale projects, including field activities, scheduling, budgeting, and client engagement. Responsibilities include defining project scopes, preparing cost estimates, managing risk and environmental hazards, ensuring legal compliance, and leading the preparation of bids, reports, and proposals. Additional duties involve coordinating and supervising subcontractor activities, conducting and directing sampling and field measurements, reviewing compliance reports, and managing all project documentation. Field investigations will include Phase I remediation, geotechnical studies for foundations and slopes, groundwater and soil sampling, asbestos and lead-based paint assessments, and remediation system monitoring and reporting.

In a leadership capacity, the Principal Engineer will supervise project teams by assigning tasks, reviewing performance, managing budgets, invoicing, and evaluating project profitability. A critical aspect of this role is mentoring new hires, providing ongoing training, and fostering professional development among staff. The role also demands active involvement in business development efforts, including fostering client relationships, developing leads, drafting proposal and attending industry conferences to promote the firm’s capabilities and pursue new opportunities.

Requires a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil, Geotechnical Engineering, or Geology. A Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) license in the state of Wisconsin is required. Must have excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Candidates with prior experience in regulatory consulting within Wisconsin and Illinois will be given priority consideration.

Position requires a balance of office-based work and field responsibilities, with travel up to 50% of the time.
