Principal Digital Product Designer

Our client is a leading insurance company.
Location is Markham - GTA, Toronto Area, Ontario (Occasional need to go to Downtown Toronto)
Hybrid - 2-3 days in office per week. Likely to increase in late 2025
This a perm/FT role.
Salary $110-130k + bonus + pension + benefits.
Candidates must have legal work status in Canada.

As a Principal Product Designer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our Customers digital products. You will tackle the most complex and challenging design problems across all their Digital Product teams, ensuring that their solutions are customer-focused and effective. You will set the highest standards for design excellence, mentor and coach other designers to elevate their skills, and create cohesive and compelling shared digital experiences for our customer's brand as well as associated Partner Brands that meet the diverse needs of our Customer's users, driving consistency and quality across all platforms.

New role. This team supports digital product creation etc. for the Personal Lines Insurance side of the business. This role is Senior Sole Contributor, not a Manager level. Will mentor and teach where applicable, and need to be very technical and have a solid toolkit in product design. They will work across all projects, helping the team, taking the technical escalations on and problem solving them.
Needs to be collegial, team oriented, this team works very well together. Able to manage stakeholders, do quant and qual research, have web accessibility experience etc.

Ideal background is Advertising Agency. Do not require Financial Services background, is a nice to have, but needs to have large customer I would guess. The big new project is to put in place a quoting system for direct consumers to go to the website and use the quote tool, but it is hard to drive traffic to, so they will help to do a product design that will engage consumers and drive traffic – that is an example of something they would solve for. AEM is ideal to have.

What you'll do:
Lead the design efforts on the most challenging and high-impact projects, setting the standard for design excellence.
Collaborate with senior business stakeholders to align design strategies with business goals and elevate product design across the company.
Drive the continuous improvement of design practices by finding opportunities for enhancement and implementing best practices across teams.
Mentor and coach other designers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
Conduct in-depth user research using a variety of methods, including interviews, surveys, usability testing, and ethnographic studies.
Create wireframes, mock-ups, and high-fidelity prototypes that set the benchmark for design quality.
Advocate for the user perspective throughout the product development lifecycle, ensuring that user needs are at the forefront of design decisions.
Stay up to date with industry trends and standard methodologies in Product Design, and share insights with the team.
Provide feedback to collaborators at multiple levels of the organization, promoting a culture of constructive critique and collaboration.
Design and build B2C and B2B related pages in AEM, ensuring consistency and quality across all digital products.

A passion for creating user-centered products.
Knowledge of web accessibility and its importance.

Optional / Beneficial experience:
Experience in Adobe Experience Manager / AEM.
Copywriting experience.
Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset.
