Preconstruction Manager

Our client, a leading manufacturer within the underground utilities and infrastructure space, is seeking a Preconstruction Manager to lead a team of Customer Solutions Engineers. This role is responsible for identifying, qualifying, and managing project-based sales opportunities in close collaboration with Territory Sales Managers, distributors, contractors, and engineering partners.

The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in civil engineering, estimating, or construction management, along with proven leadership experience and a customer-focused, solutions-driven mindset.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Opportunity Development

Lead and mentor a team of Customer Solutions Engineers focused on project-based sales opportunities

Partner closely with Territory Sales Managers to identify and qualify new opportunities

Oversee the use of online bid platforms to identify project conversion opportunities

Evaluate and prioritize incoming opportunities from distributors and contractors

Develop project-specific action plans in collaboration with sales leadership

Project & Preconstruction Management

Oversee project entry, tracking, and maintenance within CRM systems

Initiate and manage action items related to drafting, engineering, and estimating

Monitor project probability, timelines, and anticipated ship dates

Review drawings and technical deliverables for accuracy and completeness

Collaborate with sales teams on pricing strategy and quote development

Ensure timely delivery of budget pricing, formal quotes, and drawings

Stakeholder Engagement

Lead engagement with external partners including engineers, contractors, distributors, and agencies as directed by sales leadership

Process Improvement

Maintain and update competitor and market intelligence databases

Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, accuracy, and scalability

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management

5–7 years of experience in construction, civil engineering, or civil manufacturing (underground utilities preferred)

Prior experience leading or managing technical, estimating, or preconstruction teams

Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and blueprints

Background in estimating or inside technical sales within construction (preferred)

Experience with stormwater or underground utility systems (preferred)

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Proficiency in MS Office, CRM platforms, and Bluebeam

Ability to travel occasionally (1–2 times per year)

Preferred Attributes

Deep technical knowledge of underground utilities or stormwater systems

Proven success managing technical sales or estimating teams

Strong relationship-building skills with engineers, contractors, and distributors

Proactive, process-driven mindset with a focus on continuous improvement

Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without sponsorship
