Power System Field Tech NY

Position Overview

We are seeking experienced Power Systems Technicians (NETA Technicians) to perform service, testing, and maintenance on various types of power transmission and distribution equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, test, troubleshoot, and commission low-, medium-, and high-voltage electrical systems (up to 500kV).
  • Conduct testing on low-, medium-, and high-voltage switchgear and circuit breakers.
  • Perform maintenance, testing, and repairs on transformers (45 KVA to 130 MVA, dry type and oil-filled).
  • Service and refurbish circuit breakers, including low-voltage (480V molded case and air-magnetic) and medium-voltage (up to 15kV air-magnetic and vacuum).
  • (Preferred but not required) Work with SF6-filled equipment and gas-insulated switchgear.
  • Test and inspect low- and medium-voltage cable installations.
  • Operate high-voltage test equipment, including Doble Power Factor test sets.
  • Provide troubleshooting, start-up, and repair services for controls and transfer schemes.
  • Participate in emergency on-call rotation and respond promptly to customer needs.
  • Ensure all work complies with regulatory laws and safety guidelines.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.

Qualifications & Experience

  • High school diploma/GED with at least two years of relevant experience.
  • NETA Level I–IV certification or equivalent industry experience.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as NETA, NEC, OSHA, and NFPA.
  • Hands-on experience with MCCs, breakers, relay testing, oil testing, infrared scanning, and switchgear start-up (up to 500kV) is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of electrical theory and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work safely and follow all electrical safety protocols.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time effectively.
  • Customer-focused with the ability to work collaboratively with teams and clients.
  • Proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office, with the ability to research standards, products, and manufacturers online.
  • Valid driver’s license required for positions involving company vehicles.

Travel Requirements

  • Up to 50% travel across New York. A company vehicle and corporate credit card will be provided for travel-related expenses.

Compensation:

Union position. Pay range for a Field Tech range from $45 to $48 (depending on skillset, certification, and experience) per hour and eligible for overtime. Pay range for a Sr Field Tech, Power Systems Tech II-IV range from $48 to $50 (depending on skillset, certification, and experience) per hour and eligible for overtime. Daily meal and incidentals per diem available when traveling for overnight work.
