Power System Engineer PE

Role Overview:

This position is responsible for delivering hands-on electrical engineering support and technical insights for clients. Areas of focus include power system evaluations, power quality reviews, equipment setup, ongoing upkeep, and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments of electrical power systems, covering areas such as protection, short-circuit analysis, arc-flash risk evaluation, and design enhancements for medium- and low-voltage distribution setups.
  • Offer mentorship to Power Systems Engineers as needed.
  • Provide expert guidance to internal and external stakeholders based on business requirements.
  • Analyze assessment results and compile detailed reports, including recommendations and proposed solutions.
  • Review and approve power studies, applying a professional engineering seal where necessary.
  • Develop design improvements to enhance facility electrical distribution systems based on assessment findings.
  • Engage directly with clients to evaluate their requirements and provide cost estimates and proposals.
  • Apply engineering principles and industry standards to implement safe, reliable, and cost-efficient electrical solutions.
  • Support quality control efforts and offer technical assistance for assigned projects.
  • Accurately interpret and work with electrical diagrams, including DC schematics.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of electrical theory and possess solid problem-solving skills.
  • Communicate effectively—both verbally and in writing—with customers and team members.
  • Stay organized and accountable while managing time effectively.
  • Collaborate with clients, colleagues, and leadership to resolve project challenges.
  • Utilize technology effectively, including Windows, Microsoft Office, and online resources for industry standards and product research.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all applicable regulations and safety protocols.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent hands-on experience, with at least 8 years in a related role.
  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the state of NY is required.
  • Background in power engineering studies and industrial design work is highly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical power systems, including short-circuit studies, protective coordination, load flow assessments, and arc-flash evaluations.
  • Proficiency with power system analysis tools.
  • Strong technical communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage projects independently, ensuring work is completed within budget and on schedule.
  • Capability to interpret technical requirements and develop appropriate engineering solutions.
  • Understanding of key industry regulations and standards such as NETA, NEC, OSHA, and NFPA.
  • Strict adherence to safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Strong ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Customer-oriented approach with the ability to collaborate across different teams.
  • A detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to accuracy and efficiency.
  • For roles involving company vehicles, a valid driver's license is required.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%

Salary:
Up to $175k/year base salary plus 15% bonus, health benefits, PTO, tuition reimbursement, company ownership options, 401k matching plans
