Position Title: Plant Engineering and Facilities Manager

Location: Sterling Heights, MI (relocation assistance available)

Basic Purpose and Objective

In this dual-capacity role, you will be responsible for overseeing all plant engineering and facilities management activities at our Sterling Heights, Michigan location. This includes managing a team of plant engineers, technicians, and facilities/maintenance personnel. The primary function is to optimize plant operations, improve equipment reliability, ensure facility compliance and readiness, and drive operational excellence. Your leadership will be critical in shaping both the engineering capabilities and the physical infrastructure of our manufacturing facility.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Plant Engineering:

  • Lead and manage a team of plant engineers and technicians, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback.
  • Develop and implement plant engineering strategies, processes, and procedures to optimize efficiency, productivity, and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, quality, production, and maintenance, to ensure seamless integration of new technologies, equipment, and manufacturing methods.
  • Conduct regular assessments of plant processes, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing corrective actions to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and increase overall efficiency.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by promoting Lean manufacturing principles, implementing best practices, and championing process optimization projects.
  • Monitor and analyze plant metrics, such as yield, cycle time, scrap rates, and equipment uptime, to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with equipment suppliers to ensure proper installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of plant machinery and tools.

Facilities and Maintenance Management:

  • Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of all facility infrastructure, including buildings, utilities, HVAC systems, and grounds, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
  • Develop and manage preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime, extend asset life, and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors for facility repairs, renovations, and upgrades, while managing budgets and timelines effectively.
  • Implement energy management and sustainability initiatives to reduce operational costs and environmental impact.
  • Respond to facility emergencies, conduct root cause analyses, and implement solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure facility readiness for audits, inspections, and expansions, maintaining accurate records and documentation.
  • Foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the facilities team, providing training and resources as needed.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in leading plant engineering and facilities teams within the automotive industry. Experience with powertrain and electric vehicle products is preferred.
  • Proven experience in industrial facilities management, including oversight of building systems, maintenance programs, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, and technologies related to automotive powertrain and electric vehicle part manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in Lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and process optimization techniques.
  • Experience in managing cross-functional teams and leading complex projects in a manufacturing and facilities environment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of quality standards, regulatory requirements, and safety protocols in both manufacturing and facilities operations.
  • Proficiency in using computer-aided design (CAD), manufacturing software, and facilities management systems.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic work environment with changing priorities and requirements.
