Plant Engineer

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Perform engineering duties in planning and designing tools, engines, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment. Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, or computer-generated reports.
  • Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, or maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems or processes to meet requirements.
  • Confer with engineers or other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, or provide technical information.
  • Investigate equipment failures or difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and recommend remedial actions.
  • Recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
  • Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, or repair to ensure that machines or equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications.
  • Study industrial processes to maximize the efficiency of equipment applications.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • This position requires knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired through a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering, or related field.
  • This position requires a minimum of six months to two years of experience in heavy industry or manufacturing; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology.
  2. Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repairs, and maintenance.
  3. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, manuals, regulations, and codes.
  4. Ability to speak and write English at a college level.
  5. Ability to write business reports and correspondence.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers, contractors, and employees.
  7. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and chemical systems.
  8. Ability to gather information and perform root cause analysis and problem-solving.
  9. Ability to create reports for review by upper management.
  10. Computer literacy skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
