Phlebotomy Technician

An esteemed medical facility in Portsmouth, NH is seeking a dedicated and skilled Phlebotomy Technician to join our team. This full-time role offers a consistent schedule and the potential for permanent employment based on performance. As a Phlebotomy Technician, you will play a crucial role in our laboratory operations, focusing on specimen collection, processing, and documentation. You will work closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and efficient patient care, maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and compliance with all regulatory guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform blood draws skillfully using both straight and butterfly needles.
  • Label specimens accurately, centrifuge, split, and freeze samples as required by test orders.
  • Ensure specimens are stored according to prescribed conditions to maintain integrity.
  • Verify and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Process and handle urine, fecal, and other specimens following established procedures.
  • Pack and prepare specimens for transport ensuring compliance with all transport regulations.
  • Properly explain the collection processes to patients, ensuring they are comfortable and informed.
  • Adhere to all OSHA and DEP regulations, maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
  • Attend training sessions as required to stay updated on new procedures or policies.
  • Update patient information in the system to keep records current and accurate.
  • Answer phone calls professionally, relay laboratory results and respond to inquiries.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification in the state of NH or required state certification.
  • Minimum of 6 months' work experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for record keeping and documentation.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2-4 years of phlebotomy experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with handling and processing diverse types of specimens.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow complex instructions precisely.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in a supervisory role or a senior technician position is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
