VMG is seeking two (2) Pediatric Hospitalists (Medical Officers) to support the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center, Department of Pediatrics. These part-time positions provide specialized inpatient pediatric medical care in support of pediatric clinical research protocols conducted at the NIH Clinical Center. The Pediatric Hospitalist will provide direct patient care, pediatric consultation, emergency assessment and treatment, and clinical oversight while collaborating with multidisciplinary research teams to ensure the safe and effective delivery of research-related medical care.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive inpatient pediatric medical care for children enrolled in NIH clinical research protocols.
• Deliver specialized pediatric consultation and clinical expertise for medically complex pediatric patients admitted to the NIH Clinical Center.
• Assess, diagnose, and treat pediatric emergencies while ensuring timely clinical intervention.
• Participate in the development, implementation, review, and ongoing management of clinical research protocols.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, researchers, pharmacists, and multidisciplinary care teams to optimize patient care and research outcomes.
• Participate in clinical decision-making regarding patient management, treatment interventions, and participant safety.
• Evaluate existing clinical protocols and recommend improvements to enhance patient care and research effectiveness.
• Participate in departmental meetings, training sessions, safety initiatives, and continuing medical education activities.
• Prepare oral and written reports documenting patient care activities, protocol status, and ongoing clinical initiatives.
• Maintain accurate patient records, protocol documentation, and clinical reports in accordance with NIH policies and regulatory requirements.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in pediatric hospital medicine while supporting the NIH pediatric clinical research mission.

Required Qualifications

• Medical Degree (M.D. or D.O.) from an accredited institution.
• Current license to practice medicine in the United States or board eligible.
• Board Certified in Pediatrics.
• Experience providing inpatient pediatric hospital medicine services.
• Demonstrated expertise in pediatric emergency management and inpatient pediatric care.
• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
• Strong clinical judgment, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting NIH, academic medical centers, or federally funded clinical research programs.
• Experience caring for medically complex pediatric patients.
• Experience supporting pediatric clinical trials or research protocols.
• Experience working in an academic or teaching hospital environment.
• Experience participating in protocol development and clinical research activities.

Work Environment

• Part-time position averaging 12 hours per week.
• Rotating 12-hour and 24-hour shifts, including weekdays, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
• Position is located at the NIH Clinical Center, Department of Pediatrics, Bethesda, Maryland.
• Telework is not available.
• Direct patient care position requiring collaboration with multidisciplinary clinical and research teams.
• Position requires work in a hospital environment with exposure to human blood, body fluids, and pediatric research participants while following all NIH safety and infection control protocols.
