A well-established, growing organization is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead the payroll function for a workforce of salaried and hourly employees. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, maintaining compliance with all federal and state regulations, and supporting internal reporting, audits, and process improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the end-to-end payroll process for weekly and bi-weekly cycles, including both salaried and hourly employees
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of all federal and state payroll filings and tax obligations
- Review and approve payroll data, including hours worked, rates of pay, benefit deductions, and other adjustments
- Resolve payroll discrepancies, answer employee inquiries, and enforce payroll policies in line with regulatory requirements
- Compile and report payroll-related data, including retirement contributions, insurance, and other benefits
- Prepare and post payroll-related journal entries; reconcile payroll accounts and ensure accuracy of financial records
- Manage year-end processes, including adjustments and accurate distribution of W-2s
- Support internal and external audits, including benefits plan audits and regulatory filings
- Identify and implement payroll process improvements; ensure strong internal controls and compliance
- Collaborate closely with HR and senior leadership to provide payroll support and reporting
Qualifications & Competencies:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience managing payroll operations
- Strong proficiency in Excel, including handling large data sets
- Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities
- Customer-focused with the ability to handle confidential matters professionally
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
