Our client, a well respected law firm in Minneapolis, MN, is looking for a talented Patent Prosecutor with a degree and background in Electrical Engineering.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and prosecutes U.S. and international patent applications related to complex electrical, software, and electro-mechanical systems.

  • Conducts freedom-to-operate and prior art searches to support intellectual property strategies.

  • Performs patentability, validity, and infringement analyses and drafts corresponding legal opinions.

  • Collaborates closely with inventors, engineers, and legal professionals to understand technical innovations and develop strong patent applications.

  • Manages a sophisticated patent docket independently, ensuring timely and accurate filings.

  • Completes additional client-related and administrative tasks as needed.

Requirements:

  • In-depth knowledge of intellectual property law, particularly patent preparation and prosecution.

  • Solid technical understanding of electrical systems, manufacturing processes, and related technologies.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple deadlines effectively.

  • High attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Familiarity with foreign patent prosecution processes is preferred.

  • Experience in one or more of the following industries is advantageous: automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, medical devices, robotics, semiconductors, power generation and storage, agriculture, building systems, or consumer products.

Education and Experience:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

  • Licensed to practice law in Minnesota (Certificate of Good Standing required).

  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in patent prosecution within a law firm or corporate legal environment.

  • At least 2 years of professional experience in an electrical engineering role.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.

  • Occasionally required to lift objects up to 25 pounds.
