Our client, a well respected law firm in Minneapolis, MN, is looking for a talented Patent Prosecutor with a degree and background in Electrical Engineering.
Responsibilities:

Prepares and prosecutes U.S. and international patent applications related to complex electrical, software, and electro-mechanical systems.

Conducts freedom-to-operate and prior art searches to support intellectual property strategies.

Performs patentability, validity, and infringement analyses and drafts corresponding legal opinions.

Collaborates closely with inventors, engineers, and legal professionals to understand technical innovations and develop strong patent applications.

Manages a sophisticated patent docket independently, ensuring timely and accurate filings.

Completes additional client-related and administrative tasks as needed.
Requirements:

In-depth knowledge of intellectual property law, particularly patent preparation and prosecution.

Solid technical understanding of electrical systems, manufacturing processes, and related technologies.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Proven ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple deadlines effectively.

High attention to detail and accuracy.

Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving capabilities.

Familiarity with foreign patent prosecution processes is preferred.

Experience in one or more of the following industries is advantageous: automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, medical devices, robotics, semiconductors, power generation and storage, agriculture, building systems, or consumer products.
Education and Experience:

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Licensed to practice law in Minnesota (Certificate of Good Standing required).

Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.

Minimum of 2 years of experience in patent prosecution within a law firm or corporate legal environment.

At least 2 years of professional experience in an electrical engineering role.
Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.

Occasionally required to lift objects up to 25 pounds.
