Patent Prosecution Associate

Our prestigious AmLaw150 firm is actively searching for a dedicated and highly skilled Patent Prosecution Associate to strengthen our thriving Intellectual Property Practice Group. This critical role focuses on drafting and prosecuting US and international patent applications, especially in the fields of mechanical, electrical, and software technologies. As an integral part of our team, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with some of the most talented professionals in the field and deliver outstanding services to diverse and vibrant clients across multiple industries.

Salary: $250,000.00 - $400,000.00 per year

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drafting and filing patent applications in the USPTO and coordinating with foreign jurisdictions to protect client inventions globally.
  • Conducting patentability, freedom-to-operate, and invalidity searches, as well as analyzing and presenting results to clients.
  • Communicating complex technical and legal concepts to clients to ensure understanding of patent strategies and filings.
  • Liaising with inventors and other clients to discuss the specifics of an invention and its potential patent clearance process.
  • Developing prosecution strategies and providing counsel to clients on intellectual property matters.
  • Participating in the firm's business development activities, including engaging with prospective clients and contributing to proposals and presentations.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • Possession of a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • 2-4 years of experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Admission to a state bar and ideally registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Familiarity with mechanical, electrical, and/or software related technologies.
  • Strong academic credentials and proven analytical and research skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with portfolio management and patent strategy.
  • Background in a STEM field, particularly in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.
  • Prior involvement in intellectual property law litigation.
  • Experience in client counseling and opinion work.
  • Ability to multitask and manage various projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
