Packaging and Logistics Specialist
Are you an experienced logistics and packaging professional looking to make a significant impact in the automotive industry? Our client is seeking a Packaging and Logistics Specialist to lead the development and management of packaging solutions, optimize transportation processes, and ensure seamless material flow within their supply chain. This is a critical role within the Production Control - Planning team, providing an opportunity to collaborate with cross-functional teams and drive operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Packaging Management:
- Manage packaging and racking fleet requirements, procurement, and maintenance.
- Oversee all aspects of packaging and racking projects, from design to production, ensuring timely and budget-conscious execution.
- Determine optimal packaging styles for inbound and outbound components to enhance efficiency and cost savings.
- Work closely with Engineering, suppliers, and manufacturers to develop innovative, cost-effective packaging solutions.
- Coordinate and escalate issues with Sales, Customers, and Production Control to prevent packaging and racking shortages.
Transportation & Logistics:
- Manage global logistics, including custom clearances, freight forwarding, cross-docking, and container re-routing.
- Track and escalate shipments to proactively address potential delays or disruptions.
- Monitor and ensure adherence to freight budget.
- Address and resolve container issues such as damages, delays, or freight discrepancies promptly.
- Develop and implement contingency plans for supply chain interruptions.
- Proactively manage expedites, diversions, and ERS (Emergency Recovery Shipments).
- Create and maintain real-time dashboards for logistics performance tracking.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- P.Log Certification
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role within an automotive Tier 1 supplier or OEM.
- Expertise in engineering design packaging, including automotive racks, returnable, and disposable packaging.
- Strong understanding of Toyota Production System (TPS) principles.
- Advanced Excel skills, including VBA.
- Experience with IBM AS400 (preferred).
- Knowledge of USMCA trade regulations and IATF 16949 compliance.
