The Electrical PLC Programmer performs duties under the general direction of the Maintenance Manager, but works independently to perform installation, monitoring, maintenance, repair and/or modification of electromechanical systems. The Electrical PLC Technician ensures reliable operation of electromechanical systems throughout the facility including production and plant support equipment by performing the following duties.


This position reports to the Corporate Maintenance Manager and is based near Elk Grove, IL.


• Adhere to all safety programs and policies.

• Day to day troubleshooting, repair & installation of low & high voltage (single/three phase) industrial electromechanical & control systems for utility & production equipment.

• Identify & upgrade outdated or unsafe electromechanical installations in the plant.

• Responsible for documenting existing & new equipment, control & power system installation.

• Standardize all electromechanical controls to Allen Bradley components as practical.

• Assists in the development, implementation, repair, and maintenance of the plant's instrumentation, control and electromechanical systems to attain "World Class" performance.

• Perform system start-ups and operational checkouts on systems including configuration, wiring, calibration, grounding and power testing.

• Reload and reboot PLC to restore faulted equipment after power outages.

• Support plant installations to size conductors and conduit for load, form all sizes/types of conduit, thread ends of "field cut" conduit and pull field wires (with assistance if necessary).

• Provide assistance to mechanical installations as directed.

• Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections.

• Provide hardware and software application support assistance to engineers and operations.

• Specify, help organize and help maintain adequate spare parts and modules for control and instrumentation systems.

• Utilize technical materials such as equipment manuals, MSDS, safety materials, system drawings, Process and Instrument Diagrams (P&ID's), schematics and blueprints to troubleshoot and maintain systems.

• Participate in cross functional process improvement teams to drive plant performance through improved processes and system performance.

• Participate in the creation and implementation of a training program for maintenance mechanics and operations employees around the operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of integrated controls and information systems.

• Maintain plant documentation in accordance with management of change procedures.

• Repairs electrical and mechanical equipment.

• Other Duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities but may need to direct contractors on larger installations as required. • Experienced use of electrical diagnostic equipment such as multi meters.

• Be able to read, interpret and modify electrical prints/schematics and document all self-created changes. Assist with Maintenance Tech, work as a team.

• General understanding and hands on experience with explosion proof and intrinsically safe work environments. Knowledge of applicable NEC and NFPA codes.

• Complete understanding of industrial electrical systems, including DC voltage and AC voltage up to 600V.

• 3+ years of industrial experience.

• Automation experience – either automation of a specific production line or working with automated equipment/panel view programming.

• Experience with continuous improvements of lines.

• Food manufacturing experience is preferred.

• Allen Bradley SLC 500, 5000, Studio 5000/ControlLogix and RSLogix.

• Food manufacturing experience is preferred.

• FANUC Robots.

• Investigate and bring forward to Management changes for improving control systems. Improve PIC programs for optimized productivity.
