PLC Automation Engineer
Job Description
Apollo Technical has an immediate need for a PLC Automation Engineer in the Atlanta GA area
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer/Software Engineering, or a related discipline
- At least four (4) years of experience in designing, programming, and commissioning PLC systems
- Proficiency with PLC and HMI systems from Rockwell Automation and/or Siemens
- Hands-on experience with VFDs and motion control
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct all essential engineering tasks, including machine calculations, programming, and configuration for the effective design and deployment of control systems
- Develop ladder logic and structured text PLC programs to manage:
- Pneumatic, hydraulic, and electronic control devices
- Motor starters, VFDs, and servo motion control
- Design and program HMIs, SCADA systems, custom data collection solutions, and other information systems
- Create electrical schematics and panel layouts using ePlan
- Design, document, implement, and validate machine safety systems, which includes:
- Performing risk assessments
- Generating Sistema reports to confirm safety categories and performance levels
- Drafting safety validation plans and reports
- Research and integrate emerging technologies and methodologies in machine/motion control, Industrial IoT/Industry 4.0, and related fields to ensure FAS delivers superior, forward-thinking solutions
- Commission, start up, and troubleshoot intricate control systems on the shop floor or at client locations
Preferred Skills and Knowledge:
- Experience with manufacturing information systems such as Ignition, Wonderware, or equivalent platforms
- Familiarity with Ethernet/IP and other industrial networking protocols
- Background in machine vision systems and data collection technologies (e.g., barcode, RFID)
- Travel requirements are approximately 20–25%.
