Outboard Technician
Job Title: Lead Technician
Reports To: General Operations Manager
Compensation: Salary, Bonus Incentive, Benefits Plan
Job Class: Full Time, Exempt
Position Overview
The Service Manager plays a key role by coordinating the safe and efficient operations of all marine services. The position requires a leader with a background in professional marine parts and service operations for a boat dealership service center or a full-service boatyard operation. The Service Manager works closely with the General Operations Manager and the marina operations team and Parts Department to coordinate and execute a wide range of marine services.
Primary Responsibilities
· Work with General Operations Manager to prioritize daily workflow for the service shop and boatyard
· Oversee service tech team, work orders, review completed jobs, and approve boat readiness for quality control
· Manage engine warranty work and oversee new engine repower installations
· Prepare customer boats for spring commissioning and winterization
· Coordinate on-water boat maintenance technicians and service calls
· Organize and maintain a clean and orderly workshop
· Work with parts department to maintain efficient parts inventory
· Oversee paint shop, fiberglass and bottom paint projects
· Oversee off-season mooring tackle restoration and repairs
· Coordinate equipment maintenance for forklift, hydraulic trailers, tow-vehicles and work boats
· Collaborate with the GM and Office Managers to review service shop performance and monthly financial reporting
· Maintain and project a professional image
Specialty Skills and Qualifications
· Experience working in a professional marine parts and service or boat dealership/boatyard environment
· Ability to oversee a team of certified marine technicians
· 3-5 years of Marine Service Tech experience with certifications for Yamaha, Suzuki, Mercury outboards as well as expertise in providing a variety of boat maintenance services.
· Experience operating boats in the 20’ to 35’ range
· Experience operating a forklift and hydraulic boat trailer
· Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with a team
· Willing to obtain/maintain a Hoister license to operate hydraulic trailer(s) and forklift
