Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Safety Director for a regional truckload carrier.

The Orientation Instructor is responsible for the introduction and facilitation of new driver on-boarding. Average two
2-day classes per week; ~10 drivers. Oversees day-to-day management of orientation, creating and adjusting curriculum to fit employee needs and representing the company and its brand. Serves as a liaison for new hires during their time in orientation. Directs a weekly, three-day orientation program for new drivers. Manages new hire paperwork; making sure it is uploaded, signed, and completed and getting to the appropriate departments. Provide hands on training for professional drivers, demonstrating how to effectively and safely load/unload material. Trains new hires on Smith System, Qualcomm, and e-logging. Conducts pre-trip inspections and road tests. Administers drug testing and schedules DOT regulated physical when applicable. Scheduling, managing, and ensuring completion of online modules required to pass orientation. Daily communication with Safety and HR team to ensure 100% compliance with both company and federal hiring requirements. Contributes to a culture that puts safety first, taking care of people second & profitability third. Safety, training and coaching of existing drivers as needed. Travel 10%.

Background Required:
  • Driver orientation leadership (1-2 years)
  • DOT, CSA, OHSA knowledge
  • On-board communication systems (i.e., AS/400, Qualcomm, TenStreet)
  • Dispatch and decision support software (i.e. TMW, McLeod, IDSC, KSM Pricing Tools, TripAlert)
  • Driver retention strategies & committed to drivers
  • Class A CDL license (or willing to obtain within 60 days)
  • Computer literate: MS Office Suite, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, & Outlook
  • Residence: Columbus, OH (relocation assistance)
Background Preferred (but not required):
  • AS/400, TMW Innovative, Qualcomm, TenStreet
  • In-cab training experience
  • Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree
