OPHTHALMIC TECHNICIAN
MONTGOMERY, AL

The Ophthalmic Technician supports ophthalmologists and optometrists by performing clinical and administrative tasks to ensure quality patient care. This role involves conducting preliminary eye function tests, assisting with diagnostic procedures, preparing patients for examinations, and maintaining accurate medical records. OTA Certification required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct patient histories and document medical, surgical, and ocular information.

  • Perform basic vision tests such as visual acuity, refraction, color vision, and depth perception.

  • Assist with diagnostic procedures, including tonometry, visual fields, corneal topography, and retinal imaging.

  • Prepare patients for examination and explain procedures in a clear, compassionate manner.

  • Administer eye drops or medications as directed by the physician.

  • Maintain, clean, and calibrate ophthalmic instruments and equipment.

  • Support ophthalmologists and optometrists during minor procedures or surgeries.

  • Ensure accurate entry and maintenance of electronic medical records (EMR).

  • Provide patient education regarding treatment plans, medications, and follow-up care.

  • Assist with scheduling, billing, and other front-office duties as needed.

Qualifications:

  • OTA Certification required
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or certification in ophthalmic technology preferred.

  • Previous experience in ophthalmology or optometry settings is a plus.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and ophthalmic procedures.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment with attention to detail.
