Operations Manager
Job Description
We’re working with a well-established meat company known for producing some of the most recognizable beef and plant-based products in the country. Their Chicago facility is a flagship site supporting a high-profile QSR partnership and a leading plant-based brand. This is a high-output, non-union plant with a family-like culture and a long track record of developing future plant leaders.
This role is ideal for someone who wants to make an impact without sacrificing work-life balance—you’ll work first shift (7:00 AM – 4:00 PM) while leading a large team across all three shifts.
Why This Role?
Legacy Meets Growth: The facility has been operating for for many years and is still expanding, producing core meat products as well as plant-based favorites found in restaurants nationwide.
Smooth-Running with Room for Impact: The operation is strong and profitable (“making money in our sleep”)—but there’s opportunity for someone to bring fresh ideas and sharpen team performance.
Stepping Stone to Plant Manager: Previous Operations Managers have been promoted to Assistant Plant Manager roles—this is a well-defined path to bigger leadership.
Supportive, No-Ego Culture: This team values consistency, teamwork, and clarity. You’ll have the autonomy to lead in your own style—while helping develop supervisors and create accountability.
What You’ll Own:
- Oversee a team of 200 hourly employees and 4 salaried direct reports across production and sanitation
- Lead sanitation and production operations across first, second, and third shifts
- Manage output of beef and plant-based protein products served by major restaurant chains
- Coach and mentor front-line supervisors—many of whom are eager for clear expectations and growth
- Identify improvement opportunities in a plant that’s running smoothly but ready for the next level
- Ensure quality, safety, and compliance in a BRC-certified facility
What We’re Looking For:
- 5–10 years of supervisory or operations leadership experience in food manufacturing
- Strong people management skills and comfort with large, hourly workforces
- Able to thrive in a laid-back, high-performance culture where autonomy is valued
- Degree preferred but not required
- Open to relocation candidates looking to grow in a stable, respected company
