Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the VP of Operations of a premier transportation organization that specializes in highway, maritime, and logistics services.
The Operations Manager is key resource for the Operations Staff by planning, directing, and controlling operational functions, supervising, and coordinating the activities of company employees and guiding quality, efficiency, and productivity improvement efforts. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include: Plans, directs, and controls operational functions; Actively engaging in customer and business relations including but not limited to settlements, maintenance, safety, claims and Competitive Leasing operational efforts; Manages fleet productivity by tracking critical performance indicators; Recommends and implements appropriate plans for improvement; Assists Fleet Managers with drivers’ day-to-day personal, financial, productivity, training, and service needs, reviewing and reconciling related reports; Proactively resolving and minimizing problems as related to driver retention and assisting with and/or handling counseling, training, communication, discipline, and terminations as needed. Creates and maintains strong driver/operational relationships and active in conflict management/resolution on an on-going basis; Assists Fleet Managers with safety or DOT-regulated issues including drug tests, log hours, and other safety –related matters, providing direction and ensuring scheduled completion and/or resolution; Establishes and executes operating budget and strategic plan, ensuring that all company and department goals are met; Continuously seeks to improve departmental quality, efficiency, and productivity standards; Creates updates and/or revises company processes, tools, and resources, etc.; Supervises and coordinates activities of operations employees; Hires, disciplines, and terminates employees; Monitors employees performance, prepares and conducts employee performance appraisals, recommends promotions, salary adjustments, and offers assistance and direction when needed; Assigns, schedules, and reviews work, ensuring that all areas are adequately covered; Establishes goals and work standards; Administers company policies and procedures.

Background Required:
  • Asset Based Transportation Management (3 years minimum)
  • Experience managing larger fleets of trucks (in excess of 300 trucks)
  • Experience managing 7-10 Fleet Managers; Lead and direct Fleet Managers; improve operating efficiency, reduce costs, and maximize fleet revenue
  • Manage organizational/operational goals and strategies.
  • Customer/business relationships safety, settlements, maintenance, claims and competitive leasing operational efforts
  • SOP & KPI development, implementation, analysis
  • Ensure safety ownership - compliance and support
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Industry Related Software (i.e. McLeod, TMW)
  • Residence: Greater Minneapolis, MN region (relocation assistance available)
Background Preferred (but not required):
  • Education: BA or BS
  • Over-Dimensional freight and trucking experience
