Operations Manager
Mission statement: To lead efficient plant operations management by communicating, facilitating and implementing operations objectives as established by company strategic business plan. To ensure compliance with all internal and external policies and standards and provide leadership for the Plant operations teams
Responsibilities:
• Direct, supervise, and give regular feedback on performance of production staff
• Coordinate effective communication and support between shift managers, operations, maintenance, Quality control and Environment Health and Safety.
• Maintain daily production levels and review the daily log sheets for discrepancies. Evaluate problems and coordinated resolutions in an expedient manner.
• Monitor quality control data (Liquefaction, Fermentation, Distillation, Kernel Fiber Technology (KFT) and Fermenter HPLC’s, solid/liquid separation and boiler operation) to ensure company standards and governmental compliances are met.
• Production planning and the execution of cross-departmental activities by defining the actions, resources and time frame required to achieve the established objectives
• To control the application of safety and health policies, measure, detect variances and take appropriate corrective measure
• To control the cumulative and evolving area budget, detecting variances and making necessary decisions in order to accomplish it.
• To participate in defining the corresponding policies for the organization’s activities.
• To manage execution of activities by detecting, analyzing and evaluating variances, in order to take necessary preventive and corrective actions to achieve established objectives.
• To establish production goals which are aligned to the company’s objectives.
• To supervise and follow-up on actions taken to correct issues using control systems and by deploying core cause analysis and management of change procedures.
• To set priorities and ensure resources and supplies are available to accomplish internal and external company objectives.
• To generate and approve procedures and processes developed at plant to ensure they align with company standards.
• To analyze daily operations from each area in order to ensure process specifications are optimal and to maximize yield and, if variance is detected, to have the appropriate corrective action performed.
Knowledge and Skills:
• Production Planning Skills
• Understand basic and advanced chemistry involved in ethanol production, Fermentation, Distillation, Evaporation, Drying, and laboratory quality control functions.
• Troubleshoot complex inter-related processes using a distributed control system and PI software and statistical process control
• Computer Skills related to normal business use, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and additional skills in data management
• Heat transfer equipment operation and performance i.e.; Shell and Tube, Plate and Frame H/Xs
• Troubleshooting of rotating equipment, efficiency and operation i.e., pumps, compressors
• Company safety and health policies and practices.
• The Health & Safety policies, Activities and Environmental standards for the Ethanol industry.
• Ethanol manufacturing processes and specifications
• Basic engineering principals
• Organizational skills
• All applicable federal, state and local regulations
• Analytical abilities
• Standard Ethanol industry Laboratory Practices and Test Methods.
• Management and budgetary control.
• Negotiation and conflict resolution techniques.
• Management of Change (MOC)
Education: A Bachelor’s degree or Equivalent related work experience.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years in the Ethanol Manufacturing field in similar position responsibilities.
Supervision: 10-30 employees
