Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the President of a transportation company that houses a third-party logistics division and a courier organization. The third-party division focuses on dry van, less than truckload, intermodal, and various expedited courier services across North America. The courier organization is committed to time sensitive, high value and mission critical shipments, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. They are TSA compliant and is an expert at first and final mile ground transportation services for air freight shipments. Industries served include freight forwarders, customs brokers, transportation, logistics & warehousing, railroads, retail, government, defense, technology, electronics, manufacturing, trade show, entertainment, medical device, medical supply manufacturers & distributors, life sciences, biotech & pharmaceutical, and printing.
The Operations Manager – Trucking Operations will provide managerial oversight of the courier daily operations. They will be responsible for all customer service, dispatch, and independent contractor activity performance and execution. Strive to balance the needs of customers, team members, and the company. Lead a team of approximately 15 customer service operations associates and 50 independent contractor drivers providing daily capacity for ground expedite for shipments within 500 miles of the Greater Boston Market. Demonstrates a commitment to “Zero occurrences” by effectively leading the safety, health, and environmental efforts at the operation and successfully managing the safety program to complete safety related tasks and achieve safety goals. Manage an effective DOT equipment program that maintains strong FMCSA compliance status for all tractor and trailer units. Build and maintain strong customer relationships. Motivate and inspire team members through effective training, hire right practices, and by example. Ensure systematic flow of information to dispatch by managing the performance of the dispatch team and tendering shipments to tractor trailer, straight van, and driver capacity. Solves problems both individual and with a team. Coordinate scheduling for customer service and customer teams. Goal is to increase revenue, continually improve efficiency, and service customers at the highest level possible.
