Operation Manager- Rotating Machinery

Position Overview

The Operations Manager is responsible for leading day-to-day operational performance, improving production efficiency, and ensuring strong customer service standards for the Company. This role requires a hands-on, results-driven leader who can oversee people, equipment, materials, production flow, and process improvement while building a culture focused on safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead operational improvement efforts across safety, quality, productivity, employee engagement, and overall shop performance.
  • Support the rollout and consistent use of the Company’s operating standards, ensuring alignment with business objectives and industry best practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement programs and identify opportunities to improve workflow, efficiency, communication, and execution across the operation.
  • Supervise and guide hourly personnel, including supervisors, team leads, technicians, and shop employees, to meet daily production requirements and long-term operational goals.
  • Plan and coordinate staffing, labor allocation, and work schedules to support production needs, including disassembly, inspection, repair, urgent work, and special customer requests.
  • Manage labor utilization, overtime, vacation coverage, and workforce planning to control costs while maintaining production output.
  • Ensure required tools, equipment, parts, and materials are available, properly maintained, and ready to support production activities.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers through clear communication, responsiveness, and proactive problem-solving.
  • Ensure customer orders are completed accurately and on time, including inspections, documentation, data collection, repair updates, and delivery commitments.
  • Coordinate and participate in customer inspections, job reviews, and service center certification activities as required.
  • Improve customer-facing performance metrics, including repair quality, quotation turnaround time, schedule adherence, and on-time delivery.
  • Promote and reinforce a strong safety-first culture through participation in safety audits, incident reviews, training initiatives, and job hazard assessments.
  • Lead and support the development of quality processes, procedures, documentation, work instructions, and operating standards.
  • Work closely with the team on complex or high-risk jobs to ensure compliance with internal standards, customer requirements, and applicable safety and quality regulations.
  • Create a positive and collaborative work environment built on teamwork, respect, communication, and accountability.
  • Support shop floor employees through hands-on leadership, regular communication, and active listening.
  • Coach, develop, and evaluate team members by providing performance feedback, setting expectations, and identifying opportunities for growth.
  • Monitor labor, material, equipment, and other operating expenses to support cost control and profitability.
  • Assist in developing, tracking, and achieving department budgets, operational goals, and key performance indicators.
  • Use production and operational data to identify trends, improve performance, and support business decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Management, or a related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in production, maintenance, repair operations, or industrial management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience as an Operations Manager, Production Manager, Service Center Manager, or similar leadership role in a manufacturing, repair, or industrial service environment.
  • Knowledge of machining, mechanical repair, and rotating electrical equipment preferred.
  • Experience with motor, generator, or related electromechanical repair services is a strong asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience using production, ERP, or MRP systems.
  • Exposure to continuous improvement environments such as Lean, 6S, safety-focused operations, or high-engagement work systems preferred.
