An established and respected Midland-based practice serving individuals and businesses across West Texas. We combine trial-ready advocacy with practical, business-minded counsel across complex civil disputes, oil & gas matters, probate and fiduciary litigation, small-business disputes, and select criminal defense.

Position Summary

The Of Counsel attorney is a senior-level practitioner who provides specialized legal expertise, leads complex matters, and supports firm growth through high-quality legal work, client relationship development, and mentorship. This role operates with minimal supervision and is expected to deliver excellent legal judgment, writing, and client service.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited university
  • Active law license in the firm’s practicing jurisdiction(s), in good standing
  • 10–15+ years of legal experience (relevant practice area preferred)
  • Strong drafting, analytical, and client-facing communication skills

Key Performance Expectations

  • Annual Billable Hours Target: 1,200
  • Origination Target: $300,000+
  • Business Development Target: 10–15%

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead complex legal matters, including strategy, risk evaluation, and execution
  • Serve as primary attorney for high-level client guidance and complex legal decision-making
  • Conduct complex legal research and deliver clear written analysis
  • Draft and finalize complex legal documents, pleadings, motions, agreements, and correspondence
  • Maintain professional, timely, and clear client communications
  • Ensure matters are properly managed, deadlines are met, and firm standards are followed

Business Development Responsibilities

  • Cultivate client relationships and expand existing accounts
  • Promote specialized expertise through professional visibility and reputation-building
  • Participate in networking, referral-building, and thought leadership activities

Leadership, Supervision & Mentoring

  • Oversees work of junior attorneys and legal support staff as assigned
  • Provides mentorship and technical guidance on drafting, research, and matter strategy

Preferred Experience

  • West Texas/Oil & Gas docket experience.
  • Probate court practice and fiduciary litigation.

Work Environment
