Degree: Associates Degree for Occupational Therapy Assistant.
Education: Graduate from a college or university accredited at the time of graduation by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).
Certification: Certified through the National Board of Certified Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
Experience: One year of experience as an Occupational Therapy Assistant after graduation.
License: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as an occupational therapy assistant.
Core Duties:
Provide full spectrum of occupational rehabilitative services under the plan of care of a credentialed provider.
Use assessment tools, intervention techniques and treatment modalities under the plan of care of a credentialed provider.
Use complex/multi-step instructions with patients, caregivers, and other health care professionals and adapt those instructions according to the learning styles of the trainees or individuals receiving the instructions.
Identify, recommend and fabricate, as needed, complex adaptive and assistive devices, durable medical equipment and complex dynamic splinting, after consultation with the occupational therapist.
