Occupational Therapist (OT) Job Summary

As an Occupational Therapist, you will evaluate, develop, and implement individualized treatment plans for patients with a wide range of physical, cognitive, neurological, and functional rehabilitation needs. You will work closely with physicians, nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists, and other healthcare professionals to help patients improve independence, mobility, activities of daily living (ADLs), and overall quality of life.

Occupational Therapist Responsibilities

In this Occupational Therapist role, you will:

  • Perform comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations and functional assessments
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient goals and clinical needs
  • Provide occupational therapy interventions to improve activities of daily living (ADLs), mobility, strength, coordination, and functional independence
  • Treat patients across inpatient, outpatient, swing bed, and skilled nursing settings
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists, case managers, and rehabilitation staff
  • Educate patients and family members regarding therapy goals, adaptive equipment, home safety, and long-term rehabilitation strategies
  • Accurately document evaluations, treatment plans, patient progress, and discharge summaries within EMR systems
  • Adapt therapy interventions based on patient progress and changing medical conditions
  • Maintain compliance with state, federal, accreditation, and hospital regulatory standards
  • Deliver compassionate, patient-centered rehabilitation services focused on improving quality of life and functional outcomes

Occupational Therapist Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited Occupational Therapy program
  • Active California Occupational Therapist (OT) license in good standing
  • Current AHA BLS certification
  • Compliance with California Occupational Therapy licensing requirements
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and patient education skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2–3 years of Occupational Therapy experience in acute care, rehabilitation, outpatient, hospital, or skilled nursing settings
  • Experience with EMR documentation systems
  • Ability to independently manage a diverse patient caseload
  • Strong critical thinking, adaptability, and clinical judgment
  • Passion for patient-centered rehabilitation and rural healthcare
