OPEX Engineer

PURPOSE: The OPEX Engineer will work throughout this tissue manufacturing and converting operation, and will identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce waste, save energy, and help streamline the overall manufacturing operation. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, have excellent communication skills, and utilize their analytical and technical skills to ensure the machines and converting lines are operating at full capacity. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure equipment/processes meet safety codes, policies, and guidelines
  • Develop knowledge and process expertise on the machines, utilities, converting lines, and support equipment
  • Improve efficiency and minimize cost and energy usage through Six Sigma methodology (LEAN, 5S, Six Sigma etc.)
  • Conduct product, process and equipment qualification and capability studies
  • Optimize material specifications and conduct qualification trials
  • Support equipment installation, modification and start-up activities, provide process engineering leadership to resolve problems, troubleshoot and optimize the installation process to meet project objectives and schedules
  • Support the definition, implementation, optimization and maintenance of a documentation system for process drawings and vendor documentation and training information
  • Support the development and maintenance of process design standards and specifications for the manufacturing equipment and the plant utilities equipment and processes
  • Perform failure analysis (RCA, RCFA) of equipment and devices and collaborate with the Maintenance Technicians to implement reliability improvement action items
  • Help plan and implement expense and capital based projects tor improvement, safety, quality and other initiatives


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Pulp & Paper Science, or related field
  • 2-7+ years’ experience process engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within the paper or related continuous manufacturing industries
  • Skilled with computer programs including statistical analytical tools, PLC programming, and Microsoft programs such as Word and Excel
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally
  • Must have proven complex analytical skills as well as the ability to develop sounds recommendations and solutions
  • Ability to work independently and to execute programs in a cross functional environment
