Nurse Manager Labor & Delivery

Our client is a 800+ bed Magnet and Beacon Award winning academic medical center with a worldwide reputation for exceptional care.

They have engaged our firm to help them identify, attract and retain a strong leader to help take their Labor & Delivery operation to the next level of clinical and financial performance.

L & D is a Level III referral center, which provides exceptional quality care to both high and low risk laboring and antepartum patients. Over 3,500 babies are born each year at the Hospital. Labor and Delivery is spacious, featuring 15 LDR's, 5 triage rooms, 3 OR's and 2 PACU beds, with state of the art equipment and central monitoring.

The Nurse Manager reports to the Clinical Director of Nursing for the Women's Hospital. A collaborative relationship with the Medical Director of Labor & Delivery, Anesthesiology, Family Medicine Physicians, resident house staff and Certified Nurse Midwives is important and required of this position. Fiscal and Human Resource responsibility includes approximately 55 FTE's including CN IV, CN III, CN II, Surgical Techs; Clinical Support Techs/Nursing assistants and Health Unit Coordinators. The unit consists of a blend of both veteran and new nurses. The Hospital is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary team made up of nurses, physicians, nurse midwives, lactation consultants, pastoral care, social work and Doula's.

The primary purpose of the manager is to ensure that exceptional quality care and services are available to professionals / paraprofessionals, which may include nursing staff, nursing assistants and Health Unit Coordinators. This position is responsible for creating an environment conducive to recruiting and retaining staff while effectively using clinical and financial information to establish and meet budgetary goals. The manager is also responsible for ensuring internal and external regulatory standards of nursing practice are met, ensure high customer satisfaction, lead and participate in quality improvement initiatives, performance improvement and more.

Qualifications:

  • Requires graduation from a state approved school of professional nursing.
  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in N.C. by the Board of Nursing or eligible.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, MSN or graduate degree in related area preferred, one degree must be in nursing.
  • Three years of professional nursing in tertiary care, 5 years is preferred.
  • One year management experience in specialty area required or a combination of education and experience.
  • Certification in specialty or leadership required by end of probation period but preferred at hire date.
