What you will do:

The Nursing Clinical Manager (alternate title: Clinical Program Director) is a Nurse Leader with broad knowledge and diverse skills who has clinical, administrative and educational responsibility for one or more clinical programs for a designated patient population in addition to patient care, clinical care coordination, clinical teaching, administrative and research responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees and directs day-to-day operations, and through subordinate supervisory personnel, ensures effective management and delivery of quality nursing care on assigned unites for all shifts. Ensures adherence to established standards of care.
  • Assists in interviewing and recommending hiring of supervisors and nursing specialists. Assists supervisors on resolving employee conflicts, disciplinary and labor relations matters, and staffing problems. Promotes development of professional and technical skills and abilities among subordinates.
  • Assists in developing and securing approval of administering capital and operating budgets for assigned units. Monitors expenditures and resolves discrepancies and variances.
  • Participates in developing policies and procedures for assigned unites and ensures compliance with established policies and procedures for assigned units. Participates in developing plans necessary to achieve agreed-upon goals and assists supervisors in developing and meeting goals and objectives.
  • Serves as professional resource to assigned staff in resolving nursing care or management problems and concerns. Directs and coordinates inter and intra-departmental activities necessary to resolve impediments to delivery of care on assigned units. Utilizes knowledge and skills of appropriate clinical specialist in resolving difficult patient care problems.
  • Supports, interprets and enforces Hospital and department policies and procedure among subordinates, physicians, visitors and patients. Refers unusually sensitive or complex issues to superiors or appropriate department and Hospital resources.
  • Maintains and enhances Hospital's public and employee relations efforts through contacts with patients, visitors and staff, and through investigation and resolution of complaints or concerns.
  • Serves as facilitator to implement programs developed by external contacts with educational institutions, regulatory, and service agencies and community and professional organizations.
  • Participates in department and Medical Center committees; and completes special projects as requested, related to improving and better coordinating delivery of care, implementing sound management practices and so forth.
  • Prepares and submits regular reports dealing with observations, incidents, expenditures, staffing levels, and so forth.
  • Assumes responsibility for assigned units in absence of supervisor. Assumes weekend hospital administrative responsibilities as assigned.

  • Keeps current regarding trends and developments in nursing theory, practice and administration through appropriate educational programs and professional association literature.
  • Develops and implements a collaborative practice agreement with a collaborating physician and performs a periodic review of the agreement.

Requirements:

Licenses:

  • RN licensed in the State of New York or eligible.

Qualifications:

  • BSN.
  • Masters preferred.
  • 5 years experience in Acute Care Management.
