VMG is seeking an experienced National Convening Facilitator and Emcee for a proposed National Endowment for the Arts project focused on arts and pediatric cancer care. This part-time consulting role will support the planning, preparation, and facilitation of a two-day national convening scheduled to take place in Houston, Texas, in February 2027.

The National Convening Facilitator and Emcee will work collaboratively with project leadership and stakeholders to help shape an engaging, inclusive, and productive national convening. The selected candidate will prepare session facilitators and moderators, serve as the primary emcee, facilitate complex discussions, and help translate research findings and diverse stakeholder perspectives into meaningful field-building conversations and actionable recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project leadership to shape the overall design, flow, and facilitation approach for a two-day national convening focused on arts and pediatric cancer care.
  • Provide strategic input on session structure, participant engagement, discussion formats, and overall convening experience.
  • Serve as the primary emcee for the national convening, providing clear transitions, introductions, framing, and audience engagement throughout the event.
  • Facilitate plenary sessions, panel discussions, interactive conversations, and other convening activities as needed.
  • Prepare and coach session facilitators, moderators, and speakers to promote consistent, effective, and engaging delivery.
  • Review research findings, background materials, stakeholder input, agendas, and other project materials in preparation for the convening.
  • Translate complex research, scientific information, and stakeholder perspectives into accessible discussion points for diverse audiences.
  • Guide conversations involving researchers, healthcare professionals, arts practitioners, patients and families, community representatives, and other stakeholders.
  • Facilitate discussions that identify areas of consensus, emerging priorities, opportunities, challenges, and recommendations for the field.
  • Promote meaningful participation and balanced engagement across stakeholder groups and areas of expertise.
  • Adapt facilitation approaches in real time based on participant needs, emerging themes, and the direction of convening discussions.
  • Synthesize key themes, insights, and recommendations generated during convening sessions.
  • Support the translation of research findings and stakeholder input into actionable recommendations and field-building priorities.
  • Participate in pre-convening planning meetings, facilitator preparation sessions, rehearsals, and post-convening debriefs as required.
  • Provide consultation on follow-up materials or summaries that accurately reflect key discussions and outcomes from the convening.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in healthcare and/or scientific research communications.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating national, regional, or state-level healthcare, public health, scientific, or research-focused events.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as an emcee, moderator, facilitator, or similar public-facing role for professional convenings.
  • Excellent public speaking, presentation, and stage presence.
  • Strong facilitation skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences and manage complex group discussions.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and communicate complex healthcare, scientific, or research information to varied audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to synthesize complex discussions and identify key themes, priorities, and actionable recommendations.
  • Ability to travel to Houston, Texas, for the February 2027 national convening.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing and facilitating complex, multi-stakeholder national convenings.
  • Experience in arts and health, cancer, pediatric health, healthcare, public health, research, or program evaluation.
  • Experience supporting federal health, research, or arts-related initiatives.
  • Experience engaging multidisciplinary stakeholders, including researchers, clinicians, artists, community organizations, patients, caregivers, and government representatives.
  • Experience translating scientific evidence, research findings, and stakeholder input into actionable recommendations.
  • Experience facilitating discussions designed to support consensus building, strategic planning, or development of emerging fields of practice.
  • Familiarity with arts-based approaches to health and healthcare is highly desirable.

Work Environment

  • Part-time consulting position supporting a proposed national arts and health initiative.
  • Work will primarily be performed remotely during the planning and preparation phases.
  • Travel to Houston, Texas, will be required for the two-day national convening in February 2027.
  • Position will include virtual planning meetings, facilitator and moderator preparation, review of project materials, and event rehearsals leading up to the convening.
  • The role requires close collaboration with project leadership, researchers, healthcare professionals, arts practitioners, facilitators, and other national stakeholders.
  • Work may include pre-event preparation and post-event consultation to support synthesis of convening discussions and recommendations.
  • Position is contingent upon contract award.
