Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Drayage of a leading supply chain service company to the chemical industry. They take pride in maintaining high standards for safety, compliance, and customer services. Their supply chain platform is uniquely positioned to provide a complete line of service offerings for the chemical industry. While this role is in the company’s 3PL division, the asset-side of the company has an extensive network of 25 terminals and 16 warehousing/packaging facilities nationwide with a fleet of more than 1,200 trucks and 1,800 trailers for the brokerage to leverage. Company delivers a 360-degree supply chain suite with offerings that span bulk and liquid transportation, to warehousing and rail storage, to in-plant services, ISO intermodal and more.
The National Carrier Manager will play a critical role in supporting and servicing the company’s drayage business by identifying, sourcing, and developing strong business relationships with transportation carriers to achieve maximum profitability and customer satisfaction. This position will work closely with the operations team seeking new carrier relationships through cold calling and nurturing existing relationships. This is a high-paced position with great opportunity for growth. You will work to achieve business goals by managing a freight portfolio from pick up to delivery, providing and negotiating freight rates, building carrier relationships, and leveraging your knowledge of the industry to influence best practices. The goal is to increase revenue, optimize costs, and maximize profitability.

Background Required:
  • Drayage capacity operations (5 yrs)
  • Chemical transportation
  • Carrier rate negotiation
  • Onboarding of new drayage/IMDL carriers
  • Ability to cover customer freight and adjust capacity and pricing accordingly
  • Track and trace shipments to ensure timely delivery
  • Understanding of port operations and workflow to efficient movement of friend in and out of ports
  • Daily carrier operations (booking, tracking, tracing, problem resolution)
  • Bill of Lading (BOL) and invoice audits
  • Travel: <15%
  • Computer literate: Microsoft Suite
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree
  • Residence: Chicago, IL, Houston, TX (Remote possible)
