NETA/NICET Field Technician

Job Description

We are helping a renowned NETA company hiring experienced NETA/NICET Techs to perform installation support, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance, and start-up of electrical power equipment across assigned territories and project sites. This position supports low-, medium-, and high-voltage electrical systems and may be performed independently or alongside a field crew depending on the assignment.

The role includes execution of routine, moderately complex, and advanced field work, along with recordkeeping, review of test results, and preparation of detailed service documentation. Depending on level and assignment, this individual may also provide field leadership, supervision, training, and mentoring to junior personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Travel to customer and project sites to inspect, test, troubleshoot, start up, and gather data on electrical systems
  • Perform acceptance and maintenance testing of electrical power distribution equipment
  • Maintain, test, repair, rebuild, and replace low-, medium-, and high-voltage switchgear and circuit breakers
  • Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches
  • Test and inspect low-, medium-, and high-voltage cable systems
  • Maintain, test, and repair transformers and associated equipment
  • Test and calibrate solid-state and electromechanical relays
  • Perform relay calibration and power metering functions
  • Conduct testing of low- and medium-voltage motor control centers and contactors
  • Start up, troubleshoot, and repair generator controls and transfer schemes
  • Test and commission protection and control systems within high-voltage substation environments
  • Sample and interpret insulating fluids
  • Review test data and identify electrical performance deficiencies, including fault-related issues
  • Complete Job Hazard Analyses, including arc-flash and shock hazard evaluations
  • Prepare and submit field reports documenting testing activities and results
  • Review and submit timecards, expenses, and project documentation
  • Participate in emergency on-call rotation as needed
  • Maintain compliance with applicable safety requirements, regulatory standards, and internal procedures
  • Support customer-facing technical discussions and assist in the sales process as a subject matter resource for electrical testing and maintenance services
  • Responsibilities can change based on business needs

Leadership and Field Oversight Responsibilities

  • Supervise trainees, assistants, and technicians in the execution of field testing work
  • Assign field tasks based on technician capability and project scope
  • Observe testing practices and help ensure consistency across technicians and similar equipment
  • Track completion of project scope and communicate progress with management and customer contacts
  • Guide, coach, mentor, train, and help develop Level I, II, and III field personnel, depending on role level

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical testing or power systems field service
  • Experience working with a team in field-based or project-based settings
  • Experience participating in or supporting project execution
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70E electrical safety standards
  • Knowledge of lockout/tagout and hazardous energy control procedures
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical performance issues
  • Clean driving record
  • Ability to work in a drug-free environment
  • Ability to travel based on territory and assignment requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • NETA Level II, III or IV, NICET equivalent, or equivalent hands-on field experience
  • Familiarity with NETA Acceptance Testing Standards and NETA Maintenance Testing Standards
  • Experience leading, mentoring, and developing junior technicians in the field
  • Ability to support medium- to large-scale or multi-month projects
  • Associate’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical faults, including ground faults
  • Familiarity with generator controls, protection systems, and high-voltage substations
  • Experience with relay testing
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics
  • Experience using tools and software such as Enoserv RTS, Megger, and Omicron equipment
  • Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • NERC-related experience is welcomed
