Mechanical Maintenance Technician

A global leader in value added, high strength steel has an opening for a Mechanical Maintenance Technician. This position will maintain equipment to ensure safe operation, minimal downtime, and high utilization and throughput of product.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES

Safety

  • Foster a culture of safety through departmental safety program, managing mechanical safety observation corrective actions, and participating in group LOTO activities
  • Drive continuous improvement of safe job procedures and recognition and elimination of hazards within the department
  • Participate in all internal and external safety meetings and stay abreast of relevant best safe practices

Maintenance

  • Efficiently maintain departmental equipment and computer systems (as needed) independently and in cooperation with outside contractor personnel
  • Develop, implement, and complete preventative maintenance procedures
  • Maintain spare parts and equipment to avoid extended downtime
  • Assist with outage planning, including provision of adequate spare parts and equipment
  • Manage implementation of all applicable company and commercial standards, including but not limited to: ISO, departmental JSA/SOPs, OSHA, etc.
  • Correct mechanical breakdowns and work to improve process to avoid future breakdowns
  • Reduce downtime and improve equipment utilization in cooperation with operations personnel

Training/Administrative

  • Assist with development and implementation of department maintenance budget
  • Identify and address as necessary mechanical training needs for self and department
  • Engage in ongoing communication and cooperation with workforce to improve safety and production
  • Ensure contractor compliance with applicable company standards, policies, and procedures
  • Monitor contractor compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Complete all daily documentation and relevant administrative work as required
  • Attend all scheduled safety and departmental meetings as required, to include regular scheduled maintenance outage meetings
  • Strive to improve safety and efficiency on a continual basis

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum five (5) years of professional mechanical maintenance experience
  • Minimum three (3) years of heavy industrial maintenance experience
  • Experienced in mechanical troubleshooting of industrial equipment
  • Mid- to high level computer skills
  • Good organizational and leadership skills
  • Self-directed and able to work independently and/or with little or no supervision

Desirable

  • Advanced welding (carbon, stainless, aluminum) and cutting skills
  • Experienced in hydraulic and pneumatic system maintenance and troubleshooting
