PURPOSE: Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Mechanical Maintenance Engineer will lead mechanical maintenance, reliability, and project efforts throughout this tissue manufacturing operation in the Great Lakes region. They will lead the effort to optimize, streamline, and reduce the Preventative Maintenance in favor of utilizing Predictive technologies to continuously improve systems/mill performance.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Identify and manage asset reliability risks that could adversely affect plant or business operations.
Reviewing recurring issues and evaluating data trends to identify high priority reliability problems and manages maintenance work or capital projects to reduce failures.
Responsible to communicate with operations for efficient preventive maintenance and routine job planning, work scheduling and execution to optimize equipment. Use engineering principles to accurately scope jobs that will increase overall equipment reliability.
Assist the Root Cause Failure Analysis effort by helping implement corrective actions that are needed to prevent re-occurrence of equipment failures.
Prior to outage day, coordinate clearly with maintenance supervisors and technicians the job plans, time estimates, resource requirements, any safety hazards present, communicate any need for special permits.
Monitor equipment reliability to determine optimum life through PM’s
Create and execute plans to meet changing needs of the operation
Manage and prioritize maintenance activities to ensure tasks are executed at the most effective time and cost to improve availability and reliability of equipment.
Drawing up a schedule for regular maintenance and creating maintenance procedures.
B.S. Mechanical Engineering preferred
5-10+ Years of Pulp & Paper maintenance experience preferred.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – follow up on project status, interact with operators, papermaking managers, maintenance counterparts, vendors and mill leadership, and has a proven ability to communicate at all levels.
Working knowledge and experience of maintenance planning, scheduling, and coordination
Experience routinely utilizing Root Cause Analysis or other similar problem-solving tools.
Organization skills to manage multiple projects and documentation.
Must have a broad understanding of all fields of engineering, including machine design, strengths of materials, Hydraulics, fluid mechanics, metallurgy, thermodynamics, etc. Detailed knowledge of mechanical components, such as bearings, couplings, belts, chains, gearboxes, pumps, exc.
