Mechanical Engineer

As the Mechanical Designer you will work as part of a cross-discipline global machines solutioning team. You will support the global sales team with engineering inquiries to fulfil customer needs when customizing * machinery and equipment. The global machines solutioning team acts as the key link between the sales teams and production engineering. You will ensure that customer needs are clearly understood, defined and documented so they can be executed by the production engineering team. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Work closely with the sales team (inside sales & area managers etc.) to capture all customer requirements with new projects. • Conceptualize custom solutions where * catalog offerings do not satisfy the customer’s requirements. • Work as a member of cross-discipline team to clearly define & document the required system level design requirements for execution by the production engineering team • Key contact for engineering inquiries from the global sales teams, answer inquiries as needed or route to appropriate parties. • Support sales and customers for addressing field service issues or field machine upgrades related to existing * equipment. • System level design with limited guidance applying * design standards (includes rapidly developing a working knowledge of * products, tools, standards, and technology) • Lead and/or contribute to design reviews • Design risk mitigation including participation or facilitation of FMEA • Participate in Detail Verification using knowledge of design standards • Comply with legislative and regulatory Environmental, Health & Safety requirements • Creation of Design Documents and Validation Plans QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS: • Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred. • Strong understanding of theoretical engineering principles and ability to apply them independently to specific applications (stress-strain, safety factor, force, pressure, bending calculations). • Design execution experience in a related industry preferred • Skilled in calculating design parameters • Experience working with or designing customization for * Injection Molding equipment is an asset (Hylectric clamp, injection, or tooling). • Strong understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes • Experience working with or designing tooling and automated machinery with a focus on manufacturability is an asset (molds, hot runners, presses, automatic packaging lines, CNC machinery and similar) • Experience selecting and sizing various components is an asset (for example, but not limited to sensors, bushings, gearboxes, bearings, belts, seals, servo motors, pneumatic and hydraulics, etc.) • Skilled in modeling techniques (Unigraphics NX11) preferred.
