Mechanical Engineer
The engineer will play a lead role in the mechanical design and development of thermal process equipment leading to eventual commercialization. Specific responsibilities include innovative approaches to new thermal processing technologies for leading edge semiconductor fabs, OSAT’s and electronics manufacturers; the identification of promising state-of-the-art sensor and actuator technologies, the realization of high-quality hardware prototypes, and customer-focused problem solving. The successful candidate must excel in a high-energy team environment and be capable of making sound decisions when faced with the time pressures, ambiguity, and incomplete information typical of equipment used in semiconductor/ electronics research and development and high-volume manufacturing.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This position will involve all phases of mechanical equipment design including the concept & feasibility demonstration, the design and selection of components, and ultimately complete release of design to manufacturing. The successful candidate must have a team-oriented demeanor with the ability to work with cross-functional development teams as well as on independent projects. More specifically, duties include:
- Innovative solutions for leading edge customers and future technology trends.
- Mechanical designs using CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks) within the criteria and time frame as communicated by Engineering Manager.
- Incorporation of ANSI / ISO, company standards, GD&T in equipment design.
- Develop Bill of Materials (BOM’s) for new products using company information systems.
- Resolve technical issues arising from performance or manufacturing problems and relating to new or existing mechanical or thermal systems.
- Generate new and creative approaches to solving problems centered around performance, reliability, serviceability, ergonomics, and cost effectiveness.
- Take calculated risks when developing solutions to controllably push the limits of mechanical design as it relates to product delivery.
- Manage and drive overall project cost, schedule, and quality performance relative to internal metrics and customer requirements
- Support manufacturing with design, fabrication, and assembly improvements; ensure project is completed within time and budget constraints.
- Coordinate with vendors to assure that the design criteria are met and parts are delivered on time.
- Interface with subcontractors and provide assistance to customers as necessary
- Review and certify final release of drawings.
Qualifications:
- Must be capable of designing mechanical systems including the selection of components, materials, hardware and design for manufacturability and serviceability.
- Experience with SolidWorks and FEA analysis is preferred.
- Experience with thermal systems and heat transfer is desirable.
- Must have a good understanding of machining and fabrication as it relates to mechanical design.
- Familiarity and enthusiasm for working in team environment.
- Ability to travel to domestically and internationally (up to 15% for AZ and OR based position and up to 40% for NJ based position).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in ME required. Master’s Degree preferred.
- This position is best suited for individuals with 2-5 years of experience, but other levels will be considered.
- Knowledge of thermal systems and related heat transfer applications preferred
- Proficiency with 2D and 3D design tools, such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD
- Mechanical aptitude skills including proven mechanical design experience.
- Working knowledge of material properties and machining fabrication processes.
