A forward-thinking leader in automotive innovation is seeking a Mechanical Diagnostics & Data Engineer to drive meaningful improvements across their engineering and quality initiatives. This position plays a pivotal role in shaping product strategy through deep diagnostics, data analytics, and mechanical insights.
The ideal candidate will have a knack for combining mechanical intuition with data-backed decision-making. They will be instrumental in decoding field failures, communicating findings across departments, and steering corrective actions that shape the future of high-performance driveline systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigate and diagnose product and process failures, guiding multidisciplinary teams through robust root cause analyses and corrective action planning.
- Collect and analyze historical product performance data (up to 4 years) to identify trends and drive proactive improvements.
- Lead teardown and mechanical diagnostics of returned units, collaborating with customer service and internal departments to expedite field-to-facility resolutions.
- Execute statistical methods including MSA, capability studies, DOE, and FMEA to quantify risks and validate changes.
- Document findings and maintain organized records within the QMS (Quality Management System).
- Conduct internal audits and deliver training on procedures to ensure quality consistency and compliance.
- Evaluate and enhance process and engineering controls to mitigate potential quality risks.
- Stay informed on advancements in mechanical systems and quality assurance technologies.
Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
- Strong background in mechanical diagnostics, including experience with tools, measurement devices, and component teardowns.
- Demonstrated ability to use Excel for data collection, pivot tables, charting, and basic statistical functions.
- Experience working within a QMS environment and applying continuous improvement methodologies.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, from engineers to executive leadership.
- Passion for hands-on problem solving, with personal or professional exposure to mechanical systems (e.g., dirt bikes, automotive repair, etc.).
- Familiarity with Minitab or other statistical tools is a plus.
- CAD skills and comfort road-testing mechanical systems are advantageous.
