Material Take-Off Estimator

Compensation: Target range $70,000–$80,000 (commensurate with experience)

Position Summary

The Material Take-Off Estimator supports industrial steel platework fabrication projects by accurately reviewing customer drawings and specifications to identify, quantify, and document material requirements. This role focuses specifically on material take-offs and plays a key role in supporting sales, purchasing, and project planning efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed material take-offs from customer drawings, models, and specifications
  • Quantify steel plate, structural shapes, pipe, fittings, and related fabrication materials
  • Verify material grades, thicknesses, sizes, and applicable codes or standards
  • Identify scope gaps, inconsistencies, or missing information and coordinate clarifications with sales or engineering
  • Prepare clear, organized material lists and summaries for internal use
  • Revise material take-offs as drawings or project scope change
  • Maintain accurate take-off records and reference data for future projects

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of experience performing material take-offs in steel fabrication or heavy industrial environments
  • Experience with steel platework fabrication projects strongly preferred
  • Strong ability to read and interpret fabrication, assembly, and shop drawings
  • High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and completeness
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets and take-off tools; Tekla PowerFab experience is a plus
  • Working knowledge of steel platework fabrication processes preferred
