Marine Systems Technician

Location: Northern Virginia. Temporary housing provided if needed.

COMPANY SUMMARY

Dennis Point Marina & Campground is tucked away along the picturesque St. Mary’s River, just off the Potomac River in northern Virginia, about 90 minutes south of Washington D.C. Dennis Point features 118 RV and tent sites, along with fully equipped cabins. The marina has 81 deep water boat slips, on-site fueling station, kayak rentals, golf carts, and more.

While the Potomac River totals about 405 miles in length, Virginia’s section of the river starts in Harpers Ferry, traveling southeast in Northern Virginia before emptying into the Chesapeake Bay. The river creates a natural border between Virginia and West Virginia, Maryland, and Washington D.C. along its route south. With a bevy of boating and paddling activities, scenic overlooks, and waterfront destinations along the Potomac, the river is a haven for outdoor lovers living in the populous Northern Virginia area. Attractions include local breweries and wineries, hiking and camping, fishing, hunting, golf, and historic downtowns with fantastic restaurants.

Dennis Point Marina & Campground is located just 30 miles north of where the Potomac empties into the Chesapeake Bay. This area of the Potomac is home to national wildlife refuges on the banks of the lower Potomac that provide sanctuary for birds and wildlife, including Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve, Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge, and Featherstone National Wildlife Refuge.

POSITION SUMMARY

Dennis Point Marina & Campground is looking to hire a Marine Systems Technician to repair and service marine outboard engines, as well as small boat systems installs, troubleshooting and repair. This includes preventative and general maintenance on engines and broader boat systems. Overall, this position ensures the safe and reliable operation of marine outboard engines and boat systems.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

· Repair and service of marine outboard engines, including troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.

· Conducts tests to ensure proper functioning of engines and boat systems and performs general preventative maintenance on engines and boat systems.

· Troubleshoots and repairs boats, boat trailers, and other related marine equipment.

· Installs, repairs, and maintains marine electronics, such as GPS systems, fish finders, and radios.

· Conducts regular inspections of boats, identifying any damage or necessary repairs.

· Orders parts and supplies, anticipating surges in demand and maintaining inventory levels.

· Provides helpful and informative customer service to boaters.

· Keeps all grounds and work area clean and organized.

· Maintains accurate records of work performed.

· Adheres to company safety policies and procedures.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

· Strong innate technical skills and knowledge of outboard engines and recreational boat systems.

· Ability to read blueprints and schematics, technical manuals, use diagnostic tools and equipment, and have a good understanding of electrical and hydraulic systems.

· Strong problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills, ability to communicate effectively with customers, other mechanics, and suppliers to ensure all repair and maintenance tasks are completed correctly and on time.

· Possess thorough knowledge of marine outboard engine mechanics and repair.

· Proficient in using diagnostic software and tools.

· Committed to customer satisfaction and an ability to proactively meet customer needs at a marina/campground.

· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Attention to detail and accuracy in all work.
