JOB SCOPE: This position reports to the Maintenance Manager and is responsible for assisting with the management of maintenance and safety operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Installation, maintenance, repair and upkeep of operations in support of company facilities utilities, structures, manufacturing equipment, company vehicle fleet, material handling equipment, hazardous waste management, security and fire suppression systems, and pest management. Supports company safety policies and procedures, employee safety training, adherence and compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulatory safety guidelines.
JOB DUTIES:
1. Performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repairs of the building components, production systems and equipment, and ancillary areas. Carries out the assigned daily, weekly, and monthly duties of the company preventative maintenance schedule.
2. Performs preventative, predictive and proactive maintenance.
3. Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies.
4. Supports general plant safety, food safety, food defense initiatives, good manufacturing practices, and internal audits and product quality at all times.
5. Participates in root cause problem solving & troubleshooting issues.
6. Capable of overhauling most process systems and equipment to ensure optimal equipment up-time.
7. Works cross-functionally with production associates to provide effective maintenance support and to protect food safety and quality.
8. Identifies potential cost savings and cost avoidance measures.
9. Understands levels of line downtime caused by equipment issues.
10. Install new equipment or machines needed for production or maintenance support.
11. Interface with production to ensure internal customer needs are met.
12. Monitors maintenance and safety activities to ensure activities are valued-added, efficient, and necessary; ensures personnel safety receives adequate attention; ensures craftsmanship of in-house and contract maintenance reaches the highest quality standards and follows established regulatory safety guidelines.
13. Ensure maintenance schedules and requirements meet company standards and customer needs; monitor contract maintenance and various facilities support service functions.
14. Shares responsibility for self-development; supports a work environment where co-workers with divergent views are welcomed and solicited; creates an environment where creativity in maintenance and safety support and/or enhancement is expected and rewarded; appreciates and supports the operating philosophy of the company.
15. Preparing and submitting maintenance reports.
16. Conducts routine maintenance and safety checks.
17. Communication with the production team and maintaining a clean work area.
EXPERIENCE NEEDED:
1. Practical knowledge of PLC programming and troubleshooting. Minimum of 2 years experience as an industrial maintenance technician. Must be well versed in the use of personal computers and be familiar with database and spreadsheet applications.
2. Must be qualified in all aspects of facilities and equipment maintenance management activities. A minimum of 2 years of experience in a manufacturing maintenance environment or related maintenance experience is required. Must be computer literate with basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office Professional software. Working knowledge of Just in Time (JIT) inventory management and Material Requisition Planning (MRP), and familiarity with Safe Quality Food (SQF) quality standards would be beneficial.
3. Ability to establish and implement company policies and procedures in support of occupational hazard abatement, accident and injury prevention and employee safety training is beneficial, as well as experience in the development of training plans and fostering employee safety efforts. Hands-on experience with the daily plant operations planning process and scheduling would be helpful.
4. Strong oral and written communication skills are preferred; Ability to work independently under general supervision; Availability to work a varied schedule as required. Possess good time management skills.
5. Physical requirements include frequent walking, the ability to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, bend, lift and manipulate heavy equipment, twist, and kneel as needed. Ability to operate and work at heights on a scissor lift or high ladder.
6. In-depth knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems maintenance. Ability to service and maintain equipment including motors, conveyor systems, and transmission systems. Ability to inspect and assess the functionality of production-related equipment.
7. Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and regulations.
8. Advanced understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanics. Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints and schematics (Electrical and Pneumatic).
9. Should be able to troubleshoot mechanical breakdowns. Should also have the capacity to operate hand, power, and specialized tools to adjust mechanical parts and should be able to fabricate parts for repairs and machine upgrades. Experience in PLC is needed!
10. Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) preferred.
