Position Summary

Magellan Aerospace, Llay Wrexham has an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer

  • Full Time Permanent Contract
  • 39 hours per week.
  • Job location: Llay, Wrexham, LL12 0PB.
  • Unionised site – works in partnership with Unite the Union.


To support Magellan Wrexham through controlling the quality, design, development and installation of new products or production lines. Duties include improving the production processes to become more cost-effective and efficient over time, resolving technical problems and selecting precision tools for different machines. Provide continuous support to the shop floor with any tooling queries both assembly and machining. During new product introduction you will be responsible for the engineering solution from concept to implementation.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Evaluating quality control processes and making recommendations for improvements.
  • Establishing an effective work sequence.
  • Analysing and reporting on production processes, methods, schedules, downtime, cycle times, availability of machines and waste management.
  • Overseeing and supporting the work of shop-floor personnel.
  • Ensuring that the organisation’s manufacturing processes comply with relevant policies and government laws and regulations.
  • Making sure that staff follow the manufacturer’s procedures and instructions while operating the equipment.
  • Reviewing and calculating the costs of the different tools and equipment in the production process and predicting the overheads in future production requirements.
  • Analysing and planning workflow, space requirements and equipment placement to maximise manufacturing efficiency.
  • Coordinating maintenance and repair services to keep production equipment operational.
  • Tooling development and the development of tool schemes
  • Production of manufacturing procedures (SOP’s)

Position Requirements

Academic:

  • HNC/equivalent or Higher

Experience:

  • Min 4 years of production or engineering experience.
  • Proficient in the use of Catia V5.
  • Experience with budget maintenance and control

Key Competencies:

  • Knowledge of GD&T/SPC techniques
  • Must be computer literate and have a working knowledge of TMS systems.
  • Must show a high level of knowledge in aircraft assembly and manufacturing methods

Other skills/Abilities

Skills:

  • Good practical co-ordination skills.
  • Good understanding of spoken and written English.

Abilities:

  • Ability to work using own initiative
