Our client is seeking a Project Accounting Manager, to join their Accounting team. The Manager, will use their capital projects and construction accounting experience to ensure all aspects of the company’s capital projects and fixed assets are recorded accurately and timely as required by GAAP, corporate accounting policies and other regulatory standards. This position will ensure proper asset management procedures and internal controls are followed. The Manager will assist in leading and directing the activities of the fixed asset accounting team on specific projects, including setting performance expectations and providing technical guidance to the team. The Manager is results oriented, can manage more than one project and ad hoc requests simultaneously, while adapting to changing priorities in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
RESPONSIBILITES:
- Manage the end-to-end close activities for capital projects and fixed assets
- Coordinate the team’s work activities by developing project deadlines, priorities and managing projects to completion, while providing direction and assistance as needed
- Prepare and review monthly construction accrual information for completeness and accuracy considering the relevant contract terms and project activity
- Prepare and review monthly journal entries and account reconciliations
- Prepare and review monthly reports for company leadership
- Liaise with other supporting functions, including construction finance, project controls, plant operations, corporate accounting, tax, and technical accounting
- Lead accounting asset in-service projects utilizing SAP project systems and fixed asset modules to settle assets under construction balances
- Calculate and record monthly fixed asset transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, impairments, repairs/maintenance, depreciation, asset retirement obligations, etc.
- Support cost coding activities with transactional teams (e.g., FP&A, procurement, etc.)
- Manage the preparation and review of external audit PBC requests
- Monitor and adhere to a system of controls, policies and procedures
- Proactively identify issues and opportunities for process improvements with a focus on process automation and risk mitigation
- Other responsibilities, as necessary
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years of experience in an accounting-related role
- Prior management/supervisory experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- Public accounting experience preferred
- CPA preferred
- Knowledge of construction project accounting, vocabulary
- Strong analytical skills and ability to understand and interpret construction contracts
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
