Manager Cardiac Cath Lab and Interventional Radiology

Northern California Minutes from the Bay area, Napa Valley and Yosemite

Our client — a Forbes-recognized California Best-in-State Employer for 2025 and a not-for-profit, integrated health system serving 3.5 million patients across Northern California — is seeking an experienced Manager, Cardiac Services to lead the cardiac catheterization and procedural cardiology operations at one of its flagship Central Valley hospitals: a 423-bed, Level II trauma facility consistently named among Healthgrades America's 50 Best Hospitals™. The Manager has full operational and clinical accountability for the cath lab and aligned cardiac procedural areas, partnering with interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, CV surgeons, and a physician medical director to deliver complex coronary, structural heart (TAVR/TMVR/Watchman™), and electrophysiology services. You will function as a respected leader on a multidisciplinary cardiovascular team — not as a buffer absorbing every operational failure of a system that does not invest in its leaders.

WHY THIS ROLE IS DIFFERENT

  • Real Operational Authority — Strategic and tactical ownership of cath lab workflows, capital and operating budgets, staffing, and quality metrics. You are not a figurehead executing decisions made elsewhere — you set protocols, standardize practice, and drive change with executive backing.
  • A Caseload That Means Something — You will lead one of the largest cardiovascular programs in the United States — a system performing complex structural heart procedures (TAVR, TMVR, AltaValve™ trial participation), advanced electrophysiology, and same-day STEMI receiving — at a hospital recognized in 2025 with the Critical Care Excellence Award™ from Healthgrades.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration, Not Isolation — Direct partnership with interventional cardiology, CT surgery, advanced heart failure, anesthesia, and cardiac imaging physicians who view nursing leadership as a peer voice in clinical strategy. The published research on this organization specifically cites "a multidisciplinary cardiovascular team" as central to its model — and the leadership culture reflects that.
  • Investment in You as a Leader — Tuition reimbursement, systemwide mentoring, and a dedicated leadership academy — the organization's employees completed more than 9,000 development programs in 2024 alone. Nurse leader development here is not a slide in a deck; it is a budget line.
  • A Schedule Built for Sustainable Leadership — Full-time exempt, day/variable, Monday–Friday core with as-needed weekend coverage. No mandatory bedside rotations, no STEMI on-call burden falling on the manager, and a coordinated staffing model designed (per AONL guidance) to keep span-of-control sane and overtime contained.
  • A Culture That Measures What It Says It Values — An 88% employee survey response rate in 2024, with 85% of respondents recommending the organization as a great place to work. Turnover sits at 10.7% — well below the national healthcare average. This is what an actual employer-of-choice looks like in the data, not just on a careers page.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Lead overall operational and clinical nursing leadership for the cardiac catheterization lab and aligned procedural cardiac services, ensuring efficient, high-quality, evidence-based delivery of care to a complex coronary, structural-heart, and EP patient population.
  • Plan, organize, and continuously refine cath lab operations and resources — staffing, scheduling, on-call coverage, vendor coordination, and procedural throughput — to align with department, hospital, and system standards as well as Joint Commission requirements.
  • Establish and manage capital and operating budgets, achieving financial targets through disciplined utilization of personnel, supplies, and procedural inventory in a high-acuity, high-cost environment.
  • Take a strategic and tactical approach to identifying best practices, standardizing workflows, and implementing change — translating system priorities into floor-level execution that physicians and staff actually adopt.
  • Build durable partnerships with internal stakeholders (physicians, perioperative services, CV ICU, imaging, supply chain) and external regulatory and accreditation bodies, representing the cath lab in service-line strategy discussions.
  • Provide direct intervention and coaching in challenging clinical, operational, and interpersonal situations — protecting the team while holding clear standards for performance and accountability.
  • Cultivate a culture of safety, civility, and professional growth — recognized by current research as the #1 driver of nurse-leader retention — through visible leadership, structured staff development, and a measurable commitment to team well-being.

WHO YOU ARE

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • Demonstrated nursing leadership experience in an acute-care setting — typically a minimum of 5 years of progressive RN experience with formal supervisory or charge/lead responsibility in a procedural or critical-care environment.
  • Working knowledge of cath lab, EP, or interventional cardiology operations and the regulatory framework that governs them (Joint Commission, CMS, CDPH).
  • Demonstrated capability with budget management, staff development, and operational performance improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); MSN, MHA, or MBA strongly preferred.
  • Direct cath lab management or supervisory experience in a high-volume program.
