Our client is an entrepreneur with established businesses in Ottawa, Montreal and New York City and looking to launch a new venture in the Ottawa area. Currently owning a long term care home in Ottawa, our client found an opportunity to partner with a global, established staffing organization to help bring foreign healthcare professionals to Canada. This partnership will allow the business owner to have the benefit of well established back office “best in class” processes and access to universal talent to help fill the growing gap in talent within the healthcare sector. Our client is a complete start up, and this opportunity will require someone who can roll up their sleeves with a vision towards building something unique. As a result, we are looking for a Manager / Director of Business Development who is prepared to be employee #1 in Ottawa.

The role of Manager Business Development will be to take the operating models and practices used abroad and find the local market for services. The primary goal for the BD Manager will be to help build a revenue stream for a brand new business. You would be responsible for taking an established brand from abroad and educating the local market on the need and potential with an eye for expansion outside of Ottawa. Meeting with executives, human resources professionals and senior leaders to help understanding their staffing needs within the healthcare sector and creating proposals and RFP’s for organizations as needed. We are looking for someone who is a “hunter” and not afraid to bang down doors and get in front of their audience because they believe in the need for healthcare resources. You will be able to set up reasonable metrics to drive your own results, and be held accountable to establishing long term relationships. You will know how to set goals, develop action plans to drive revenue growth and nurture the relationships required. Researching and understanding where your target market lies will be essential.

The Ideal Candidate will be entrepreneurial minded but can’t take the initial step on your own. You are someone who would love to run a business but need some support. You will bring proven experience at establishing business relationships within your target markets and driving revenue targets. Knowing who to contact and how to contact them is essential. Previous experience navigating the healthcare industry and knowing who to speak in private and public institutions will be critical to your success. Whether you have worked in medical, pharma, service or other healthcare related business development, this opportunity will allow you to build something from scratch and grow your own team. We are looking for someone who is a strong communicator, well organized and doesn’t punch the clock because some of your partners may be in different time zones. You will be welcoming and engaging and your client service experience both to clients and your healthcare workers is essential. We are looking for a “hunter” mentality who is hungry to break down barriers, manage sales cycles and eventually build a team of likeminded professionals to help grow this business. You will recognize the need for healthcare workers in Canada, and want to play an integral role of bridging that gap.

What will make you stand out

  • Experience working with developing a clientele and bring a hunter mentality.
  • Knowledge of the staffing or professional services industry or a how to put together tenders or RFPs together required.
  • Healthcare or pharmaceutical sales would be considered a huge asset.
  • Proven ability to be able to work autonomously while driving revenue.
  • A track record of building relationships from scratch
